Final Fantasy XIV picks up where the soiling it's pants and screaming racist things faze of World of Warcraft's life cycle set in. Now that it's ancient ass has been carted off to the old folks home, XIV is by a wide margin the one and only MMO still worth a subscription price (EvE Online is an extremely distant second place, and that distance grows larger by the expansion but I digress).

The graphics, in my opinion, are unmatched in the MMO genre. The art and design of the game is fantastic (although pedofels, sorry lalafells still creep me out. Their eyes are so dead inside). The Main Scenario Quests as they call them (translation: main storyline) truly make XIV a Final Fantasy game. Fans who love the Final Fantasy series could play through it from beginning to end and be satisfied by it alone, but with the dozens of side stories, the class/job system, and everything else this game brings to the table, it's truly a legend in an MMO genre that seems to be otherwise dying around it.

It's worth every penny of the base cost, the collector's edition (yes, riding a couerl is as awesome as you imagined it would be), and the subscription fee. Definitely recommend it. And I'm an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, I barely ever recommend anything.

Updated: So it's been quite awhile since I've updated this review, and now the latest expansion that wraps up the main storyline is out. Endwalker is almost entirely a solo experience, despite following the same forumla as previous expansions. The story is amazing, but very much focused on the above mentions MSQ or main story. After the fantastic Shadowbringers storyline, Endwalker had big shoes to fill and in many ways managed to pull it off, but also in some ways fell short. Is it worth picking up? Absolutely. Is it a flawless masterpiece? No, but it's close! I highly recommend it if you haven't played through it yet.
