We gathered up at the stone wall next to the bridge 60 of us.. The officer shouted reload.... Stand up.. Fire! Plumes of smoke gathered from the rifles we knew the enemy was close across the bridge. Two ncos yelled to fix bayonets.. Prepare to charge was screamed down the line.. We charged across the bridge 4 men fell in front of me after taking enemy fire.. There was no time to stop the enemy were there i plunged my bayonet into am enemy as he cried out for help i turned and fired off my shot into another.. Just as we thought it was over the enemy countercharged from the near by forest a bayonet struck me in the face while the guy yelled die yankie scum.... 10/10 would charge to death again.
