A vacina contra a chikungunya não é uma “fórmula química única”, mas uma combinação de componentes.

O principal é o antígeno, que pode ser:

Vírus vivo atenuado (enfraquecido), que não causa a doença, mas ensina o sistema imunológico a reconhecê-la; ou

Proteínas do vírus (partículas semelhantes ao vírus), que imitam o chikungunya sem ter material genético.

Além disso, a vacina tem estabilizadores (para conservar o produto) e, em alguns casos, adjuvantes, que reforçam a resposta do organismo.

Essa combinação faz o corpo produzir anticorpos, preparando a defesa antes do contato com o vírus verdadeiro.
