Started as a Quake mod which might've not looked nice, but introduced a ton of new content for future FPS releases, TF was always an innovative franchise.

The latest part of the series was updated over 770 times and is one of the biggest FPS games in history. 150+ official maps, nearly 20 game modes and that's only a tiny bit compared to the content our community has to offer!

Valve has released a free (yet cumbersome) tool to create your own maps and they also support people creating taunt animations and ingame items. Newer tools like Hammer++[ficool2.github.io] improve the usability of creating maps.

This game is a hell of a ride featuring 9 classes with countless of customization options, a dedicated competitive community on various platforms like ETF2L, UGC, RGL.gg, TF2Center, Pickup.tf etc. and an insane replay value! Besides Garry's Mod, a sandbox game which -because of all these talented community members creating mods- is still very popular, TF2 is probably the funniest PVP/PVE multiplayer shooter you will find online.

Just go to /r/tf2 and look at the amount of community commitment. You might want to visit /r/NewToTF2; /r/truetf2 (Comp) or this for a full list of subreddits.

The TF2 Community Discord[discordapp.com], teamfortressTV[www.teamfortress.tv], Knockout![knockout.chat] and the Steam Discussions are also worth visiting.

Low-end PC's with a weak CPU (not GPU!) can boost their performance by using FPS configs.
You can create your own customized config here[cfg.tf] or over there[mastercomfig.com].
[Check the file extensions! .cfg ✔ .cfg.txt X]

This is also a good opportunity to become familiar with the developer console!

High-end devices may use tools like Nvidia Inspector, VibranceGUI and max quality/cinema cfg's in order to push the game to it's limits! Check whether your system is compatible though before you download any (GPU) tweaking tools.
