Best Disc Golf game out there right now. Real brands (Latitude 64, with some additions recently of Westside discs and Dynamic Discs) and flights that seem realistic while providing arcade fun. They've added Emporia Country Club and The Beast in Finland as real life courses and have a ton of fantasy/fictional courses that have great themes that are really unique. There's a great community for weekly events and daily/weekly challenges as well as multiplayer that are all great. Still getting updated regularly.

My best advice is to play it on your phone first (it's free on your phone), and if you like it and want to play with the better frame rate/better screen and mouse controls then upgrade to the Steam version. There's a few things missing in this version like the Team Series shop and Cash Shop that both offer disc packs with IRL currency, however, any discs you buy in the mobile version you can connect to Steam, so buying them on mobile still gets them for you on Steam.

Also the disc unlocking is very generous, you get tons of discs for free and all of the best discs are available either in the "Challenge the Valley" mode or buying with in-game coins or by leveling up. You can also receive discs for completing community events so you start to build the collection quite quickly nowadays.

I made a similar review at 100 hours played for 2K21. Here's my thoughts on 2K23 through 100 hours.

The core gameplay is the best it's ever been. High difficulties feel like real golf and more about managing your misses than having to hit perfect shots all the time and the short game is tricky but realistic. Only exception right now is chipping out of bunkers is a bit too good and replaces the need for a splash shot for most bunkers.

The new skill tree and fitting system adds some depth to the game that's been missing over the years. By the time I had reached 100 hours in 2K21 I had all the clubs I needed and there was nothing left to grind for. 100 hours in to 2K23 and I'm approaching the end game of fittings, but still have places to improve my fittings. The skills are nice to have, but the ones designed to help when you do poorly you need to do so badly that the minuscule upgrades won't be doing you enough favours so I ended up stacking my skills that activate when you do well.

The new golf ball types are currently not balanced and are a grind to afford, having them available to use in societies and matchmaking makes it an unfair advantage that I'm not a fan of. The golf balls can slow down green speeds, soften the greens, and add distance to all your shots in 1 golf ball type with virtually no downside.

The course designer is pretty much unchanged from last game, and there's some pretty bad bugs in the designer that need attention to make it on par with 2K21's designer, but it's still a great designer overall.

There's been a few bugs I've encountered, but we've already had 2 hotfix releases (with patch notes finally) for some of the more major bugs, so if things continue to trend in the direction of more feedback to the community and more bug fixes, then this release cycle will definitely be the best of this franchise.

Societies are still the heartbeat of this game, and it's a shame that they haven't been improved more over the past couple game cycles. TGCTours is still the best part of this game and I'm sure it will keep me playing this game weekly for the next 2 years.

With crossplay and ranked matchmaking being announced as future updates to the game, this has the makings of the best golf game ever.

In it's current state, I would wait until more bugs get ironed out and a few more features added before paying full price.

Early Access Review
Best version of video game ultimate since Layout Ultimate 2005.

Physics of the disc are fantastic, throwing and cutting controls are really well made, AI is really solid and competent.

It feels really rewarding once you start getting used to the controls and start making good throws and getting better at the game.

There's also a stat section for your player character, and the stats are done in a very balanced way where there's pros and cons to putting points in different attributes, seems like it's horizontally balanced very well.

I'll continue updating this review as I play more of the game, super promising and the dev is really awesome and is constantly checking in with the community for improvements and ways to make the game better. This game is still constantly being improved upon and I'm excited to see where it goes from here.

Not worth 45$ without XXL Mod, developers have made terrible decision after terrible decision. The modding community is the only thing keeping this game alive. Wouldn't spend more than an hour without the game modded. Now that the devs have dug themselves a hole by threatening to issue a Cease & Desist to the biggest community creator that's responsible for a majority of the fanbase sticking around, there's no way to recommend this game.

Played for 100 hours (got to xp lvl 100) so I feel like I can review it fairly now. Gameplay is the best this series has ever been. Swing feels fantastic, and as I got better I was able to find a routine that would produce good shots on higher difficulties (Master/Legend). Getting the achievement for going under par on Legend was the most rewarding gaming experience I've had in a long time. It's difficult but fair and on the higher difficulties one of the closest simulations of real golf out there. Misses seem fair and great shots feel rewarding.

Course designer is fantastic and Online societies add a lot to the game (TGCTours has been a very rewarding weekly event for me). Some fantastic courses being made weekly and high skill ceiling in the creator.

The clubs do have different stats and a lot of people were worried that it would be pay to win in the club department but I can safely say (as of December 2020) that the clubs are horizontally balanced with fair takeaways to match any strengths of each club.

Unplayable with a PS4 controller from what I can tell. Axes are all messed up, I think I had it working with a PS3 controller ages ago but wouldn't recommend picking it up if you have PS4 controller or XBOX One controller, even on sale.

Great game with finely tuned mechanics that allow for a great balance of being fun at the start with a learning curve that's not too overwhelming while still offering plenty of advanced mechanics that are constantly being learned. Possibly the best "sports" game on any platform right now.

One of the best golf games out there right now, and the an amazing and in-depth course designer to add to it. Societies are fun competition, especially with TGCTours tournaments for hardcore players, new swinging features that make the game challenging for a long time and added customization options. If you're a hardcore golf fan, this is a must-play (in my opinion)

The single player is great, and although I've never used mods, I'm a firm believer that mods are a part of a game and helps the game grow. Now they are just pushing everyone over to multiplayer to squeeze more money out of people by taking down the biggest mod that most mods need to run in hopes people will ditch the modded SP for the micro transaction fest that is GTA Online.
