This game reminds me of Sid Meier's "Pirates!" (well, the remake - not the original) and has a strangely addictive grind. Seems like an ordinary ship shooter at first (not that there are many games in this category at all, mind you, so that's not a bad thing). In later levels it becomes a crazy disco of death.

10/10 would party with electric dragons again

Oh, also - GREAT online community!

It's like old-school CoD but with vehicles and Battlefield-style maps. And often-hilarious physics. For a free and unfinished game, it's great. I usually don't spend anywhere near as much time on F2P games as this, and very rarely spend real cash (which I have a bit in this). You see people complain sometimes in-game about things being OP or UP, but really the game is pretty balanced - these guys just don't bother to research the advantages/disadvantages of that gun or tank.

It's not pay-to-win but rather pay-to-not-grind, however new players are barely disadvantaged at all (you just need to learn what to avoid and when to run).

It sucks that all the bad reviews here are from players who have been playing for years and are just cranky at the recent changes, they might feel "robbed of their fun" but really - they made the mistake of getting emotionally invested in an UNFINISHED game. As always though people who are upset are much more vocal than happy players, there are still a lot of veteran players in the game who appreciate the new Squad changes (especially since the recent hotfix).

Just finished chapter 1. VERY funny, memorable characters, a touch of drama, and even a replay factor; as far as episodic games go, this title is well worth it. Telltale could learn a thing or two from these guys!

Great Odin's beard; it's Cultures!

NOTE: I have not played much on Steam, but I played the Cultures games a LOT back in the day.

The Cultures series of strategy/city-builder or "society simulator" games were made by three of the guys from Blue Byte who were part of the design and creation of The Settlers/Die Siedler II: Veni, Vidi, Vici. Enough said! Regarded by many city-builder fans as the spiritual successor to the original Setters series; while I did enjoy Settlers 3 and 4 I feel that these were much better games. It's very similar to those however, albeit with a much more personal touch. From the micromanagement of the workers and people (e.g. you have to breed them and provide living spaces close to workplaces) and the RPG-ish elements (workers skill-up and professions/technologies are branching) along with a story-driven campaign, this under-rated classic is an absolute must-have for any fan of the city-builder style of strategy games.

Pros:
- Vikings!
- Excellent micromanagement
- Decent 2D/sprite graphics that still look great today (despite being over ten years old you can still use 1080p resolution and the UI scales well)
- Random banter and social dynamics of your little virtual Vikings; you actually care about each and every one
- Detailed progression of technology/professions
- Decent-enough story line to keep you engaged
- Roads (not required for transport but beneficial), singposts, trade routes and remote settlements on large maps
- Ships!
- Can suck you in for hours at a time...

Cons:
- ...can suck you in for hours at a time ;)
- Can get a little repetitive if you don't care about storylines
- Warfare can be a bit tedious and difficult (especially because it really hurts when just one of your soldiers are killed in battle *sob*)
