Took me 30 hours to beat this simple game on easy difficulty, I'd say its worth it.

It takes a little research to re-assign controls in dosbox but once you are done with it, controls feels too ez. About game? well its a dos game, I didn't expect any more than I got. I've been having fun with it and the map is huge. Just on a journey to explore what is it about and so far, I'm content with it. Won't say its a must play for all but maybe for people who want to experience entirety of Elder Scrolls games.

Note: Having started gaming in 90s and on DOS, I'm fine with it being outdated and I wish I discovered it sooner.

Key mechanism (I've discovered so far):
- A map you will have to explore, it takes a while to explore a simple town, unlike Skyrim or Oblivion or Morrowind, you have to enter every building, read the name of a scroll that pops up and make a bookmark (because of there size of each town and city)
- easy way to make bookmarks is to enter the store, read the name, get out, ask any one about the store while standing in proximity of it, they would bookmark it on map for you ;]
- You can actually bargain with shopkeepers
- combat is linear
- Green Bar is health and Red is fatigue (I've mistaken it for few hours) :'D
- Has fast travel system.

I shall keep updating the list as I discover more.

Its been 4 days since I got this, at 33 hours, I can confirm I'm hooked to the game. This is what I hoped Fallout would be after countless hours in Skyrim.

4 days since purchase, 40 hours in total, I say its a pretty good game, despite its age.

Comparing this to EVE: Online, where I have logged in over 5000 hours, EVE is great for social play, X3: Terran Conflict is a better space simulator. Sure you can automate ships to perform various tasks in X3, but still it is a better space simulation than eve.

In terms of complexity, I was surprised to see that the game has a steep learning curve just like EVE. While in eve, sure it can take months to skill for a single ship, in X3, credits (ingame currency) are harder to come by if you are starting, which slows the progression to an extent. (if you don't watch youtube videos on how to make money). Also, your racial standings are important if you want to be able to access other race ship tree, while in eve, you can just buy a skill book and inject it (which can be instantaneous purchase if you have monies) but skilling in eve still takes time (unless you again have money and you buy skill points).

Moreover, it is not be forgotten that in eve, you fly a single ship at a time, you can be a fleet commander in a huge fight but you will be flying 1 ship at a time and probably the most multitasking you will be doing is station trading while running an industry. In X3 however, you get to control all the ships you can buy at same time, despite them in different systems, near or far. In 4 days of my play and 40 hours in game, I have 6 haulers trading for me, while i fly a TM (military transport) ship and then I have a few miners. This can be overwhelming in managing if you aim for credits making efficiency but not to an extent that you cant sacrifice a bit of credit generation.

X3:TC lets you be a pirate, police, industrialist, trader, taxi, bounty hunter, explorer, miner and mix of all this, which is similar to eve online but in eve online, if you are a part of a large corporation, most of this can be ignored.

What cannot be ignored is how long single fights can be X3, proper dog fights unlike eve, I mean so far I've destroyed probably 12-15 pirates but god, It took me a long time to kill them as I still recover from eve's lock and press F1 type of fighting. I mean you can work around this by simply using missiles, but I figured, why would I want to? in most of police missions I did, if I use missiles, I actually go in loss as missile cost can be high.

Anyway, all I can say, I have just scratched the surface, Im yet to get into industry and many aspects of this game but its definitely a good game if you aren't one of the younger consumers, otherwise you can look into X4 which is a sequel with better graphics and probably more addons.

Thoughts on game revisiting after few years (bought it when I was on game buying spree so didn't play it a lot before). It becomes better the more you play it. First hour or so will seem like a bit awkward if you have played Skyrim before, but then it kicks in. Pretty decent game and don't hold back from trying it.

Just note, Dexterity bonus stats drop every time you level up to force you to spend points across other categories (people who go rogue) and its not a bug. You'll know once you start playing it a bit.
