More a visual novel than a game. Demands replay for presenting choice so well, but Pyre's slow burn provides little drive to actually play twice. Perhaps an expression of life?

Worth experiencing.

Classic. Fantastic narration and music. Great, simple, but modular, expressive and deep combat.

One of the more interesting battle systems I've seen in a game. Great voice work, music and art that carries on Bastion's legacy.

Wanted a simple 2d action RPG grinder in the vein of old flash games. Was pleasantly surprised by the depth of combat, variety of character progression, and some of the storytelling beats as well.

Easy to get into. Loads and saves in a snap. Great on a handheld. A breath of fresh air from some of the more bloated modern releases.

Could have easily passed this game up but I'm glad I took a chance on it.

Has a learning curve but is a deep and rewarding RPG experience, both from a mechanical gameplay and storytelling perspective. Probably best in class.

The best Street Fighter has ever been. World Tour is fantastic for casual players and/or RPG fans.

What I wanted: Warhammer 40k Doom with modern sensibilities but nostalgic retro style.

What I got: Warhammer 40k Doom.

If you wanted to play Doom again, you didn't need my review to convince you. You already bought it. You're already enjoying it. The guns and demon splatter are as great as they've ever been. Welcome to 1993.

If you wanted to know if there is something more here, there isn't. Same 2 hp health pickups that still leave you starving and serve only to taunt you while cluttering the world with false promise. Same frustrating level design with no map or UI help. Same maddeningly hidden and ultimately underwhelming secrets. Same arcade style level times that make you wonder if you're bad for taking so long, especially if you were looking for those secrets. Same grueling difficulty. Same outdated experience that has undoubtedly been improved upon immensely over the years.

None of the fantastic voice work I'd come to love from the great Warhammer 40k titles like Dawn of War and Space Marine. No interesting lore or compelling story. No customization or upgrades. No sleek new take on the brutally simple classic Doom. Nothing to set it apart from its nearly 30 year old progenitor. No little spark of life. Just the same old notes I didn't actually want to hear again.

Too much busy work, attrition and loss. Have to be in the right mindset to play.

Came because I'm a big fan of good soundtracks and specifically Will's theme. Good work, David Fenn. Thought the whole soundtrack would hit similarly, but even that falls flat in game and sounds better on Spotify for some reason. I'll stick to enjoying that on its own.

Fun if you can get into the routine of a fictional businessman / fighter. Genuinely. Controls and combat feel good. Gathering materials and selling them in a shop, in the vein of the classic, Recettear.

Fun for any experience or skill level.

I usually actively avoid turn based strategy games like XCOM, not typically enjoying the dice roll failures and intense resource management. Midnight Suns is an olive branch from Firaxis to bring a broader audience into the genre.

Great buy for fans of Marvel superheroes. Can be enjoyable for anyone looking for a casual turn-based RPG experience with a little more tactical depth and extra graphical flair.
