I was a complete beginner to card games but I jumped into ESL because I've played all the Elder Scrolls games. Absolutely loved it, and the artwork for cards is incredible. I pretty much play it more or less every day, but usually on mobile. The community is pretty cool and active and there's a lot of continued development in new expansions etc. and the dev teams always balance the meta every month so nothing gets TOO out of hand in the ranked section. Only problem is it can be a grind to get cards unless you want to pay real money. You can buy everything in this game except from a few alternate artwork premium cards (purely aesthetic change) with in game currency even if it will take a long time to do. If you want to spend money, there are cheap options to get you a budget deck until you've yourself grounded. So if you are new, ask the reddit community what to do with your gold before you spend it. And when you level up you can choose to get certain legendary cards. Always google it before choosing! As a part of the Elder Scrolls universe it holds up pretty well, with cards from every game and even some original content too.

Edit: I've had this game uninstalled for a year now. Used to play it on mobile constantly. Q1 2020 updates curbstomped this game when it was already dying. Transition to pure pay to win from being able to play with all types of old cards - now if you dont have new ones you instalose. Devs abandoned the game and then so did the playerbase. Some people went off to the Asia server where it only recently came out, and is practically vanilla with its releases as opposed to crammed with bloated unfair DLC that optimises the p2w experience. Amazing 2-3 years ago, now it's as fun as a turd in a toaster.
