I bought this game hoping for a party-based grinder where I could level up the squad I wanted and do it with a Final Fantasy Tactics feel.

The game didn't turn out like that and at first I wasn't sure if I would keep going. There are several mechanics which discourage (or outright prevent) you from sticking with the adventurers you want to play all the time. They'll be away on quests, injured, moody, or something else. Also, passage of time is tracked so you can't just focus on one slice of the game... you do need to tend to other things besides combat or training or wherever it was you wanted to focus. I'm also not crazy about the art, but I got used to it (and there's a lot of variation which is cool).

Having said that all, there are lots of options in the settings and a way to tweak the .INI file so you can reduce or get rid of stuff that isn't fun for you. The stuff I mentioned above won't entirely go away, but it does become easy to manage or ignore while you get used to the flow of the game. Combat is fun, growing your guys is fun, and the story and events are interesting enough, too. You can also customize your guys to a certain degree, letting you put in your D&D party or some other group you want to imagine in a new setting.

Overall I recommend it given the flexibility of the developer (what a good guy, to let us mess with his vision) and the fact that there's plenty of good ideas, fun to be had, and stuff to do.

I've been enjoying this series since I gave it at try in AOF 3, and it's even more fun when you can play everything it has to offer. If you enjoy tactical combat like in Age of Wonders or Eador, you will like this game. The campaigns add plenty of structure if you prefer narratives with goals, and the wealth of open world content will let you try out all the factions and unit combinations to your heart's content. On top of that, the devs are responsive and genuinely care about their game being fun. Buy it!

I'm having so much fun with this game! 😁

But it didn't start that way. The extremely juvenile beginning was off-putting to me (uh, is this a game for 7-year olds or adults? Answer: both!) but once I got past that and into the "meat" of the game I found a lot to enjoy. The exploration is fun, expanding your loot is fun, and recruiting and optimizing monsters is fun, etc. Also, the "Japan" is dialed up to 11 and the localization is fantastic (so many puns o.O) so that doesn't disappoint. Finally, the music is 👩‍🍳💋👌.

Is there stuff to complain about? Sure, some of the UI could be better, and I'm not a fan of the handful of timed quests (though to be fair, the timer only counts down while you're playing), but on the whole it has been a great experience that I plan to continue. Get it! 💰💲🤑

What fun! 🎈 I held off on playing Parkitecht for a while for whatever reason, until I tried the latest Rollercoaster Tycoon from Frontier. Well, after fighting with the spline system for an hour, I RAN to this game to get my beloved grid. And oh, am I ever-so-glad I did. The game has that old-timey RCT feel that I wanted, and the community's fantastic pile of decorated rides gives you plenty to do, whether you're inspired to build your own or plunk down someone else's vision (and then tweak it to your tastes).

My only complaint is the constant breakdowns in sandbox mode. You spend hours lovingly crafting a park and just want to watch it run for a bit, but not even an army of mechanics and the most aggressive maintenance schedule can stop things from falling apart. I would linger in the end game longer, but I feel like Shrek (can you not be yourself.... FOR FIVE MINUTES!) after letting it run.

I had fun with this game after it came out, until I didn't. IMO, this company has a pattern of making fun single-player experiences and then kneecapping them due to multiplayer concerns.

I'd somehow forgotten how no Triumph game survives the nerf bat until everything's "balanced." Fun and clever tricks you discover in your formative hours of play? Gone. Strategies that hinged on a spell or an ability? Good luck, hope it lasts. This isn't a game that weans you out of those through better design in later scenarios, or by unveiling superior methods as your understanding deepens. No, it just takes them away by making them suck.

"Fun," right? Well, not to me. I don't feel like re-vibing the game after every other patch, so I'm going to wait a year until they're done turning this game into whatever it's going to be. THEN I will see if it's still fun. It was for the 60-or-so hours I played it, so it gets a thumbs up for that. But once the patches started rolling? Arrrgh! At least I got in while the getting was good.

I find the newer Frontier games impossible to control. I spend most of my time in a battle trying to move the camera, lay down logical paths, and place objects along a sensible (and nonexistent?) grid.

I had the same problem with Planet Zoo, and while it's not as bad here, it's still preventing me from having fun while I learn the game. Seriously, am I the only one who doesn't find the controls intuitive at all? It was SO much easier in the older games. Off to try Parkitecht, I guess.

I am new to the Pokemon genre but I really enjoyed Cassette beasts, and did most of the extra stuff in the game before I beat it (including all the quests and relationships). The story is interesting and keeps you going, and the combat is enjoyable and varied with all the creature options out there. It took me a little while to figure out the "y tho?" behind mixing up your builds and creature abilities, but once I came up with my own reasons (and began to understand the game better) the fun only increased. I also enjoyed the soundtrack and the diversity of characters and options. Definitely recommended! 🌟

I'm really enjoying Spellcaster University. On easier difficulties, it's the perfect blend of relaxing and challenging to keep you stimulated but deliver those endorphins at the same time. ✨🧙‍♂️

On the downside, the "tutorial" is a joke and the devs have been slow to support updates. In spite of that, the game is still fun as-is, and the intriguing design makes it easy to think of ways to expand and improve the model. Here's hoping we get a DLC and/or mod support! 👍🌠

Update: 130 hours in, I'm still going! Everything I said above is still true, but I wanted to add two things. First, something I REALLY appreciate: you can do all of the challenges (which unlock new cards) on the easiest setting if you like, so nothing is barred from you at "casual" levels. And second, the game does get deeper as you go, so there's more to uncover about how to play well and keep you motivated. Highly recommended.

This game was supposed to be relaxing, but in my games the pretty landscape was constantly broken up by awkward railroads and wonky rivers that looked anything but natural. I was hoping the world would snap together in an elegant, living mosaic but it was just one hot mess after another. I guess I'm too much of a neat freak for this game!

Wow I've only played this game for 2 hours and it's far exceeded my expectations of an emulated port. The auto-mapper and monster info panel really adds something I didn't know was missing, and the game runs smoothly and doesn't get in the way of itself like I feared it might. I'm not sure I would recommend it to players who don't have the sweet coating of nostalgia to keep things bright -- after all, if this game were actually modernized, it would have content and class accessibility in mind -- but it's sure fun to play it again after all those years, and the extra polish (if not exactly improvements) to the system are very welcome.

PS: Play the game in a windowed mode (I went with 720) and then there's plenty of room for the automap, monster panel, and game HUD to all fit on one monitor. It's pixel art designed for a smaller screen anyway, so just get used to it and it will be easy to enjoy.
