This is one game that really rewards you with pushing the boundaries to become an unstoppable force. Learning the ins and outs of the items, characters, and finding the synergy between them is a delightfully rewarding process. I love it because it's like a wonderful dance when I have that successful run gradually building more and more power to crescendo in the final battle, or to choose to obliterate myself to end the run.

Stray is one of the most wonderful games I've played. It's beautiful, with detailed environments that urge you to take your time and enjoy the world. The story is special to me. Tragic at times but also full of connections and love. I felt a connection with the characters and their stories and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a special experience and I'm so glad I was able to play through it. I'm playing through again, taking my time, enjoying the journey. And, of course, meowing all along the way. I simply can't recommend this game enough.

Woe upon those lost souls who enter here. The concept is simple, the gameplay engrossing, and learning successful strategies takes time and luck. All the properties of gambling minus the horrendous monetary losses. So long as you don't let Jimbo take over your life.

Unlike what I imagine most other people who have game time measured in hundreds of hours for this game, I've spent essentially the entirety of my time in singleplayer. The story is fun, characters are the usual GTA over the top, and the gameplay is tight. It's one I like coming back to for many reasons. Sometimes, I just like to drive around Los Santos and relax. Sometimes I binge some story missions. Often, I just want to wreak havoc in the world they provided simply for the pure cathartic bliss of chaos and blood for the sake of it.

Sometimes a game is more fascinating than it is fun, or even a game. This one tugs at those strings of memories long past. Growing up, I visited the Mammoth Cave system and Ohio Caverns a number of times. It always felt like visiting an alien world with no sky. No sun. No plants. Just a slick, bleak, cold, and damp darkness. Caves are fascinating to me. LIDAR changed the way we map caves, allowing us to garner detail like nothing before. But, caves are still those dark and mysterious labyrinthine structures below us that never are truly safe. No matter how much I enjoyed them, there was always a sense of unease. A sense of impending danger from the dark unknown. Scanner Sombre is an experience that pokes and prods that sense of unease. It replicates that sense of foreboding darkness in a clever way with roots in the real world but that goes beyond that into the supernatural for a fun, if expected, twist. I'm not sure how much I'll replay it after having beat it and done another loop with New Game+ but I appreciate the experiences I had with it. It's weird and strange and I love that.

It's gorgeous. The soundtrack is fantastic. You'll die frequently and horribly. That makes the times where you become an overpowered god of destruction that much sweeter.

Abandon all hope, ye who enter here.
You know you're in for the long haul when your first time playing is 8 hours, you still haven't finished that game, and you know you've not even scratched the surface. That I managed to unleash an inter-dimensional eldritch space horror in my first play-through absolutely sold it to me. Would recommend to enemies. Only recommend to friends if I am willing to not see them again for the next decade.

The year is 1998 and you just got home from school and hop onto the old beige box to load up Half-Life for the first time. Now, XX years later you can do the same thing. And still jump back from the occasional headcrab.
