Hollow Knight is a breathtaking, wonderful game. I think of it as 2D Dark Souls not because of the usual comparisons of combat, enemy patterns, etc. But instead because it nails that feeling of exploring a dark, sad world filled with forgotten beauty and depressed NPCs. Oh, and big monsters.
The locations are vibrant and unique. The secrets are satisfying and spending time as a completionist feels well-rewarded. Combat is perfect. NPC quests are emotional and memorable. Hollow Knight is the pinnacle of a modern metroid-vania exploration game.

Early Access Review
WYSIWYG
Excellent rogue-like that I have to keep reminding myself is "Early Access".
Slick in everything from graphics, weapons, and controls to lore, progression systems, and loot.
The game supports a great variety of playstyles, from completionists to speedrunners.
It never feels like an incomplete game -- just a great rouge-like for which I can't wait to see more content (enemies, weapons, levels, and secrets).
Don't wait -- it's worth your money in its current state.

Never before have I been so excited to print a 40-page manual, and assemble a binder. 10/10

It was getting dark and the wolves were coming. One of us was out too far, and the wolves picked him off, leaving the rest of us waiting in our base. It was a good base; well fortified, but very compact. We had full armor, and sat ready around the fire.
Darkness fell, just as the first wolf arrived. And then our base exploded.
The fire was destroyed, and we had to run, dodging the wolves, trying to stay in the light of our burning base until dawn arrived. None of us made it out alive.
I can now give you two life lessons:
1) Buy this game. It is fun alone, it is a blast with friends on voice chat, it is worth your money.
2) Never -- EVER -- set up camp where a meteor shower can destroy your base.

So worth it! I've played it a lot more on mobile, but this is a deceptively complex game that deserves a few dollars! It's difficult, and requires you to be somewhat committed to keep trying and getting better. I'd compare it to Spelunky, it's founded on similar design principals.

Halo in Minecraft. If you love custom games in Halo 3, you'll love this game. Absolutely worth it!

Good update! Makes it more worth the money I spent on a copy for my friend and I.

Early Access Review
Definitely worth it! Fun, easy to setup multiplayer with friends. About 40 different stages so far spread across three courses. It's still in early access so there is plenty of more content to come!

In a sentence, this is the richest rougelike I've ever had the pleasure to delve into. It is Binding of Isaac meets Nuclear Throne, with a dash of Rogue Legacy and a lot of flavor all its own. Also, there are some really clever references to other indie gems hidden in the Gungeon! I can't recommend it enough. 10/10 would reload again.

(FYI on playtime: While I've played this for ~100 hours on PS4, I decided to buy another copy on Steam to support the developers.)
