I never thought I would live to see Jon Arbuckle tokyo drifting while getting hit in the back of the skull with a pie.

Coming back to this game from Elite (I played this first on launch), the flight mechanics and ship combat feels slow and hand-holdy, with the flight on planets still being limited in terms of maneoverability, etc, and directional thrust (up, down, left, right) along with native joystick support would both be nice additions. Trading also is less developed than Elite, but this game is an exploration game, and it does that way better than any other. Despite the finite pool of base assets leading to creatures and plants that can feel reptitive, the little touches that make them different give every new discovery a sense of "this is mine" that no other exploration game has managed to capture, for me at least. Base building is Subnautica-esque, yet the time it takes to unlock blueprints can be a bit tedious at times. Ship design is alright, the fighters, haulers, shuttles and even exotic ships all look as though they fit their role, yet the exploration ships look oddly out of place, and more like glorified fishbowls than starships. Planet generation is great, only I wish that I could fly through some of the natural formations made without being pulled upwards by the hand-holdy flight mechanics. In terms of bugs and stability, the majority of the bugs I've personally encountered are in the UI system, where the various components wrestle control away from your character from minutes on end just to end up telling you you've gained 50k units or something. Performance is mostly fine too, aside from low flight above planets, which tends to be laggy/choppy, but I'm not exactly running a beast of a system so take that with a grain of salt. The main story is sadly not as interesting as it could be, and it feels once again more hand-holdy than it could be, due to the inherent nature of fetch quests. And finally, the multiplayer is implemented exactly as it was expected, with occasional encounters with players that could end either well or badly.

TL;DR 8/10, could still use some work on flight mechanics.

You can make a Russian guy commit suicide by spreading lies such as his wife only marrying him as a psychological experiment.

I actually don't know how or why this game is still getting updated, it has an average 30 day player count of 150.
