This game had so much promise! It's genuinely fun and probably the best implementation of Mafia I've seen (aside from the constant tinkering with roles that nerfed a few of them into the ground). That's why it's so disappointing that it's completely unplayable due to the utterly ♥♥♥♥♥♥ community.

I first tried out the browser version back when it was almost brand new and was instantly hooked, even purchasing the Steam version once it came out. But as time went on, the community increasingly grew more toxic and terrible - from the time you couldn't make a lobby without getting at least two or three Turkish players who refused to speak English, to the constant racist trolls and gamethrowers who made it impossible to enjoy a round, let alone win. I think what I disliked most of all was the no-fun metagaming attitude in the "competitive" rooms that trickled on down, with forum posters obsessing over their ELO and nothing else. Not only did people take it way too seriously, but you were expected to strictly adhere to a sure-win formula that removed any element of chance or fun and boiled games down to checking off steps on a list until you earned your points.

It's damned if you do and damned if you don't - play in the random lobbies and you're basically ♥♥♥♥♥♥ if you aren't Mafia because nobody cooperates and people are constantly trolling, and it's likely a third of the town will just disconnect by the second night. In the competitive lobbies, you're ♥♥♥♥♥♥ if you're an antagonist because townies are tryhards!

I guess you could call me a casual for not wanting to put up with this, but it's just my two cents. Eventually I realized that I was no longer having fun, especially since I was playing a dozen rounds per day without winning a single one. I genuinely can't recommend this game to anyone in any good conscience who isn't some kind of masochist. =/
