Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow? 'No!' says the man in Washington, 'It belongs to the poor.' 'No!' says the man in the Vatican, 'It belongs to God.' 'No!' says the man in Moscow, 'It belongs to everyone.'

Those were the words of Andrew Ryan. One of the main characters in the 2007 video game BioShock. Developed by 2k Boston and published by 2k Games. It's about a man named Jack who survived a plane crash and stumbled upon an underwater utopia turned dystopia called Rapture, created by Andrew Ryan, an objectivist business magnate, inspired by objectivist and utopian thinkers such as Ayn Rand and George Orwell, as well as other big names like Walt Disney. In Rapture, the citizens are now called Splicers, former humans who became deformed beings void of reasoning and obsessed with modified genetics that grants power called ADAM. ADAMs are stored in children known as Little Sisters and former human beings turned robots called Big Daddies are there to protect them.

SPOILERS AHEAD

As you progress throughout the whole story with the help of Atlas, you will find out about Rapture's past through diaries and visual storytelling. And as you reach near the end of the 2nd act, you will hear the words as you're ready to kill Andrew Ryan, "A man chooses, a slave obeys." Realizing that throughout the whole game, you've been a slave to Atlas' orders to progress. As Ryan dies, Atlas has revealed himself to be Frank Fontaine, Ryan's archenemy, to overtake Rapture and harvest all the ADAM to himself.

As you go on a quest to stop Fontaine, you will have to turn yourself into a big daddy. The irony is that, you will strip yourself of your humanity for metal parts and a new purpose, to protect, in order to gain your freedom. The ending of the game depends on your actions regarding the Little Sisters, whether or not you harvested them for ADAM or rescued them to bring their souls back.

BioShock is one of the most philosophical and thought-provoking video games I've played. With its themes regarding objectivism, and moral choice, it really makes you think rather than just slash and shoot all the way through. Along with its unique setting and marvelous art design, it's really a sight to behold and a storyline to experience.
