I have always played games where more or less, they tell you were to go, what to do and in what order - Very much on rails. So back in February 2022, I wasn't sure what I was really in for when I started playing Elden Ring.

This was my first ever 'souls like' game and first game by FromSoftware and yeah, this game is definitely not on rails let me tell you that. Every part of this game has something going for it and is hugely detailed to the point where it's worth checking every clifftop, every cave, every structure because you will most likely find something there, for the good or for the worst.

If you're not familiar with the style of a Souls like game, here's the jist - You will die. Many, many times. To the point where I actually took a break for about a year, a 100hrs in, to finally come back and kill that boss that gave me the sweats for hours on end. It's hugely rewarding to play this game, or any Souls like for that matter, because it is a skill. Taking your time, dodging at the right second and levelling up.

On top of all of that, there is a story to follow to - Albeit slightly confusing, with mistranslated sentences from Japanese to English but it's there. Remember when I talked about games being on rails earlier too, well there's 6 endings to this game depending on what you do... So good luck!

Overall, other than the fact you might cry from frustration and thinking you're not good enough, this game will have you fist pumping the air and I can't wait for the DLC to come out hopefully in 2024. Very much recommended, even for first timers.
