I too preordered it. I will say its good, but flawed. Its more homeworld and the game looks great! Love the new design, the terrain, etc. But at the same time, they make a big deal about using the terrain for ambushes yet they make it difficult to use it. In many ways I feel the game is a step backwards from DOK or HW2 (sorry, I always preferred 2 over 1). I will say that I do like the story. I like the more personal side of it, but holy uncanny valley batman! Should have stuck with DOK more stylized look.

But overall a fun game

A true classic. Simple game play, find keys, find treasure, kill nazis, find the exit, repeat. I do however recommend using a source port instead of playing it in DosBox, trust me on this. Also check out SplitWolf if you have a buddy and are up for some oldschool nazi killing couch co-op

I want more. that is all. More. MORE.
First few missions feel like you are in a Homeworld game, exept you are the pilot and not fleet command. Then there is the strike suite, which takes it from homeworld to whatever mecha anime you enjoyed (for me, it was Robotech or Gundam).

Just want more!

There seems to be a lot of negative reviews (and yet the overall somehow keeps it's Very Positive rating).

Let me say this first: IT TAKES TIME TO LEARN.

Its something new, and like all new things, it takes some time too get used to. There is a learning curve.

Take the time to learn it. Take the time to adjust to it. I play anything from RTS to FPS and it works for ALL OF THEM. There is no going back to a 360 controller for me. This is much more versitile than some would lead you to believe.

I should also point out that I am using this on a custom PC i built for my livingroom. It works great with non-steam machines and non-steam games (if run through big picture modes).

Do you want something like a 360? then shut up and just get a 360 controller.
Or
Do you want a controller that is not just a controller, even if it means getting used to a new set up? If you are like me and like to experiment and tinker, this might be the right controller for you.

Took me a little to get into it, as nothing is really explained. Restarted several times until i watched a video guide Once i got energy, followers, and demon killing figured out things got fun. The game is random, which can be both a bad and good thing. The further out you go, the harder things get. Im only one town out from where I started, and 2 large scary looking ships bombed the crud out of the place. Got to love the random, destroyable enviroments. Now only if i didn't lose my level 5 demon smiter when i died.

It gets repetative, yet addicting. Would love to play coop. That would make things more intersting.

I got this in a humble bundle. I played it nonstop for 2 days. Great, now i need to get my hands on the first 2 and play through the entire series. Its like binge watching a good tv show.

Note: "Not Recommended" DOES NOT MEAN UNENJOYABLE. Quite the contrary. It is rather enjoyable. It just is not worth the price. I actually got it on sale through humble bundle. This came was packaged with Beyond Earth (which the bundle was $1 less that just BE stand alone).

Packaged with Beyond Earth and with a huge discount? Yes, get that, especially if you want beyond earth?

On it's own? id pay $5 or less to be fair.

Review in short: Awesome. If you have never played and are thinking of buying it, start with HW 2.

I never played the original Homeworld, but I am a big fan of Homeworld 2. It still is one of my absolute favorite games. As you can imagne, I was rather thrilled. I still am thrilled as I play through HW 1. I have read several complaints that HW 1 Remastered has become too HW 2. How do i feel about this? Meh, never played the original. Only played 2. So I think its great. I loved homeworld 2 and have no problem with the remastered game.

Multiplayer/vs cpu is a different story. Its beta so there is a bit of grace there. Some maps have next to no resources. Must have been HW 1 maps, Thats my biggest complaint. On the right maps it is a ton of fun. Love having relics as the center of some epic space battles. My inner 12 year old is happy. Can't wait for some sick new mods. I hope they flesh out some of the other factions that you encounter in the games.
