A game published by XBox Studios, geared towards Gamepad as the primary input, in the year 2020.

Does NOT have the basic ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ function of changing any sort of binds on a controller.
no no you have to do it the caveman way, in the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ config files and spend majority of the time doing that instead of actually playing the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game.

Add a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ option to rebind controls in the game menu because not everyone likes to play with your weird setup MOon Studios.

Edit: The config method doesn't even work. What the ♥♥♥♥ is this.

Metro Exodus. Where to start? This will be a long read. I'll try to keep spoilers to the minimum, if any at all.

The Metro Franchise is one of my favourite FPS games ever, for me, it is right there with Half Life and Bioshock, you know, the genre defining video games.

Metro Exodus is different, I'll come to this later. If you have played the previous two games, you would know what makes Metro special. The tight tunnels, barely lit, the sounds of nosalis' creeping you out, the fear of getting killed by a monster back stabbing you at any moment. The fear of not knowing whether the person in front of the barrel of your gun is an enemy or innocent. The fear of not having enough ammo to deal with a herd of Nosalis because you know you'll encounter them.

But Exodus takes a very different approach, from the tight tunnels of the Metro, you are now exploring vast open-world-esque levels. With each main level having a very different feel, theme and plot from the previous one. There is very little cohesion between the levels and you might forget the actions you took in a chapter later down the line.

That's not a big issue though, as the levels are created with so much detail and attention that everything that you loved from the previous two games, comes back in every level in someway or another.

For example; the first open-world you encounter has plenty of safehouses, so that you get familiar with the concept of how the world reacts to in day and night. Night means more monsters will roam around and in daytime, there will be trouble from humans.

And here comes the first major gripe; the game tells you straight up who is a bandit and who is innocent, if you have subtitles on like me, you'd end up eavesdropping on a group of people and the subtitles instantly reveal that they are trouble.

Also, the battle music is dead giveaway, announces that there might be enemies nearby, be ready. This completely destroys the surprise of finding out the enemies/innocents yourself.

In Metro Exodus, there is also a crafting system, like Tomb Raider. You find parts and then you can craft ammo/filters/repair and clean your gear (but only at a workbench). It makes sense to put a crafting mechanism in a pseudo open-world game, to push players to explore. And even lore wise, it makes sense because people in a post-apocalytpic world will craft stuff with the waste that's been left. But a huge part of me missed the High Grade Ammo being the currency of the game.

Because in the previous two games, you could either buy ammo for your guns or medkit to heal or masks to survive. On the other hand, you could shoot your whole wallet away to put down a Librarian. Or spend that ammo on upgrades for your gear.

It was a choice, but now you're down on masks? Just create more. You need medkits? Easy, crafted. Ammo for your guns? Craft that too. And this worsens as the crafting material is abundant across the world. There's rarely a feeling of dread, fear as you are always over-prepared for everything.

The Tikhar becomes such an integral part of your experience that you can't even swap it out now, well, not truly, only for a crossbow.

You can't run a load out of a Shambler, Kalash and a Revolver as the Tikhar is always the third weapon. Which brings me to how overpowered it is, because again, crafting. The ammo of Tikhar is so cheap to make, you can't really ignore how efficient it is to use that instead of regular guns.

So far, you might think all of the stuff I have mentioned is negative.

Here's where Metro Exodus differs from the previous games in a good way. I loved the open-world level designs, it makes a lot of sense if you think about it too. You explore a little in The Last Light and find hope of habitable places above the Metro. And what better way to explore them on your own.

The safe houses acted as where I'd go after a long, enduring survival to rest and relax.

The open-worlds are designed by keeping the essential Metro feel in mind. You can get picked up by a demon if you're not careful while wandering around. Or bandits can pose a trouble if you're spotted in daytime.

The places where the main story progresses are just wonderful. Atmospheric, immersive and scary. There are not many jumpscares, just great atmospheric survival horror.

As the game removed the currency, so now the upgrades for your gear is scattered across the world or worlds I should say.

The graphics are great, voice acting could have been better but nothing to worry about.

The story is very good but there are giveaways right before you start a level that who among your crew can die in this level. Also the NPCs tell you to not do some actions to prevent the death of crew members. So this makes it unfair to find out the consequences of your actions yourself. As they are already laid out in front of you at the start of the Chapter. Don't do this, so this NPC will survive.

Metro Exodus peaks at the final stages of the game, when it returns back to more conventional Metro settings. Ammo pick-ups become scarce. Workbenches to craft ammo also become rare.

The feeling of relief I had when I finally found the sole workbench to repair my broken mask at the final stages was something straight from the Previous Games.

So, let me conclude this.
Metro Exodus is a very different Metro experience than the previous two games.
But it's an experience which you'll like, the characters are charming and memorable. The story sticks and the combat, depending on how you play, is good. The worlds are designed with great details, it is the best looking game I have ever played.

It just changes a lot of design elements which made the first 2 games so great, it tries to stick to its root but it should have embraced this new Metro experience by fleshing out the survival aspects, keeping the consequence of the actions a secret and not handing overpowered weapons from the get go which is upgraded for free to an even overpowered version.

I liked this game, a lot in fact. It's just the Metro Fan in me is a little disappointed.

8/10 would recommend
would get my ♥♥♥♥ scared by spiders again for the love of god man i am done with these spiders ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

I have spent nearly 40 hours of my 108 hours of game time playing a mini-game

10/10 would lose to Niflgaardian Empire Deck again

(in the books, Geralt is the brokest mf ever to exist; can't even afford food on a daily basis

in the game, Geralt can buy a whole ass country, you and your mom, he'll still have some crowns left)

I used to think about this game and the story of this world when I went to bed during my playthrough.
This game invoked an emotion which I haven't felt in a long long time.
