Final Fantasy (A fantasy game that, to this day, is anything but final)

For the most re-released game of all time, Final Fantasy comes to us with a pixelated version of its classic adventure. Although it's the most subpar by far, it still manages to capture the essence that Hironobu Sakaguchi set out to capture when he was tasked with saving his fledgling company. His swan song continues to echo throughout this entry thanks to a fresh coat of pixelated majesty, a revamped musical score, and some achievements with an intriguing bestiary followed by some original artwork.

The original remains the most challenging to endure in all its 8-bit glory, bugs and all. I'm sure Dawn of Souls would look down on this version for its lack of end-game content, but this game does what it needs to do. There are some minor hiccups within this game's core design, but nothing game-breaking.

Pro – Auto Battle from Dawn of Soul makes a comeback, along with the best remaster music by far.

Con – The leveling in some areas is wonky, the Ice Cave has the most bizarre music ever, and for the second time, I am going to lament the lack of achievements, or at least ones that make the game repayable.

Verdict – There is so much to enjoy from this version, if not just to have. But for those craving a “real” challenge, get yourself the original 8-bit monster and relive the glory days of ineffective attacks and the horror of the ice cave. Don't say I didn't warn you.
