the best way to describe this game is it's like if you took FTL and made it into a 4 player co-op experience where you're each a member of the crew. It's fun, it's frantic, it's beautiful, and it captures a really nice core sci-fi experience that I haven't seen in many other places. The devs are active and engage with the community, and it's really easy to find cool people on it. It's honestly the closest thing to first person Star Trek type game that I've found, and it's one of the few games (other than Balatro and Helldivers) this year that have had me no-lifing it for the first few days I owned it

if you're on the fence about Void Crew, 1.0 seems like a GREAT time to hop on. It has a bit of a learning curve and it's not kind to solo play (though it is possible, there are some loadouts that are designed for it, but in general it's better with others whether they be randos or friends), but it's the type of game I've always wanted and I'm so excited for what the future has in store for it :)

I'm literally her. I'm literally Elster. No seriously, it's actually a problem. I've been like, having these dreams and stuff?? At first I thought it was just because I'm a lesbian and an engineer but like-- Now I've got all these memories and this, this longing for someone I can only half remember, and this drive to go deeper.

Yeah 10/10 game, would wake up again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. and aggn. adnwhuif. anduhfei whaadhcu awhiii00

Early Access Review
was shipmom for a number of rounds. Teammate claimed it was easy and took no skill. He stayed behind next round and we went in. He didn't know the controls and one of us immediately got blown away by a turret. I went out and told him to never claim ship was brainless again. He said it still was and that I was just "mad cuz bad."

10/10 would clutch save ungrateful teammates again

when you get good at the game, you feel like you're playing through the Sonic CD intro cutscene. that's really all that needs to be said lmao

also the combat is INSANELY fun.

seriously, buy this game.

It's Spider-Man. It's good. Modding scene is also good. Totally worth the price for the amount of content. DLC writing and balancing is somewhat ass, but everything else is near perfect.

If you're a fan of Paper Mario, you NEED to play this game.

I knew I was going to like it after the first Chapter, but I held off on writing a review to see where the story went. I won't spoil anything in this review, but needless to say it had a couple of really cool twists and turns, more than a handful of memorable characters, and a really satisfying (and in some ways saddening) conclusion. I just finished it for the first time, and somehow this little indie game managed to reawaken a feeling I haven't had since the first time I finished Paper Mario, TTYD, or Super. (I should note that I got about halfway through on one playthrough but put it down for a while so I started over. The actual game is probably around 8-10 hours on your first playthrough if you're not trying to power through it.)

It has its problems, sure. Every once in a while there's a graphical hiccup, not all of the boss fights are great in comparison to normal encounters, and it feels like the games chugs every now and again for seemingly no reason. But the awesome "turn-based" combat (it's in real time, a factor that really makes the battle system stand out from other turn-based RPGs), its original world and scenario, and the fantastic dialogue more than make up for it.

If you like indie games, buy this game.
If you like turn-based RPGs, buy this game.
If you thought Super Paper Mario would've been better with a battle system, buy this game.
If you heard your friend talk about it in passing a few weeks back and thought, "eh, maybe I should check it out" and now you're reading my review, buy this game.
If you need a new Paper Mario-esque game to shed some light on your cold, dead heart (like I did), buy this game.

In conclusion, buy this game. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

Subnautica is my absolute favourite game of 2018. From the early stages of development, it appeared to just be another survival sandbox type game in the vain of Minecraft. Another low budget title chasing the cash. In reality, the finished product couldn't be further from that.
The atmosphere in this game is incredible. There's something unsettling about the ocean, and Unknown Worlds used that to their advantage at every turn possible. The fact that the map is painstakingly handcrafted rather than procedurally generated makes it feel alive and lived in, like the world has a history, and even some of the more video-gamey elements (like different biomes having drastically different colour pallettes and plant life) don't take away from that fact.
The gameplay is incredibly fluent and you will fall in love with the gameplay loop. The fact that UW designed the world allowed them to repeatedly force the player just a little bit out of their comfort zone to progress. There's no way you can cheat the system to become ridiculously powerful. You're always going to have to go just a little bit deeper for that new upgrade, that new vehicle, etc. You're never the most powerful thing in the ocean, and because of that there's a sense of dread that sticks with you even in the quieter parts of the game.
I will now share one of my favourite experiences with you (mild spoilers I guess). There's a biome with almost nothing in it that is just a couple of mountainous dropoffs and dark caverns. It's near the blood-grass plains and the grand reef. Again, there's really nothing there so it's a good place to get some early upgrades to your seamoth and prawn suit. However, when you enter the biome, your exosuit will tell you, "Biodiversity in this region is unusually low. Cause unknown." There's nothing emotional about the delivery of this line, or really anything to suggest you should be scared, but as you descend hundreds of meters to investigate the sparse reef, your mind will really start to wonder why the hell there's nothing there. Me being me, I assume the worst, and even though nothing ever happened here, I was terrified of something coming out of the darkness the entire time.
In short, get this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game man.
