Not everything needs to make sense, sometimes when making cool things you want to make them just because they are cool. Also it's good to just go with the flow and work on sparks of inspiration/creativity.
That being said...

I am god and so are you.

tl;dr: It's a 10/10 for what it is. Go buy it, don't make Monika wait.

I used to watch let's plays of this game several years ago and once the plus version came out, I decided to buy it just to support the team that made the original game for free.

I never really liked the visual novel genre and I am incredibly picky about anime but this game is something else, and it actually made me appreciate the work that goes into some visual novels.
So like two years later I got struck with nostalgia about this game and decided to play through it myself this time since I forgot a bunch of stuff about it... 100% worth it.

It was so worth it in fact, that I completed every achievement and discovered every secret.

It might sound weird and I don't say it often about a game but I truly feel like because of this game I've become much closer to realize who I actually am and I don't think many games can invoke this type of feeling for me so... Thanks.

Also this game has an incredible soundtrack, here are some of my favorites:
I Still Love You
My Song, Your Note
Dusk

The Good:
  • Visually, this game is incredible, everything from the area design, animations and enemy design is so spectacular you've got to see it for yourself.

  • I love the combat in this game way more than the first one, because in this one you can't miss a 95% and it's overall a more predictable experience which to me is massive.

  • The skills are way more balanced than in the first one and it's overall well polished. Pretty much every skill will become useful in a situation if needed, which creates strategic decisions. (Great!)

  • Playable story sections are so fantastic, though the overall storytelling I think is a bit weaker than in the first one.

  • I really love that the Inns you visit have different names and effects when you enter them.

  • And the relation system, while very random, is still a pretty cool addition. (For the most part)
The Bad:
  • The actual problem are the enemies, which are ridiculous.
In the first game, an enemy does a move gives you some stress and deals some damage to you.
In this game, the enemy has 3 turns, dots you, gives you stress, gives themselves dodge and screws with your team's position all in the same turn. It gets especially crazy when you get to higher confessions.

  • Most trinkets are straight up garbage unless you get lucky. There are some cool combinations you can make but that's another luck factor.

  • The memory system is completely useless since the game is literally made on the precipice that your characters will die and you will fail. I got to use the memories so few times I couldn't remember what it even did... Ironic isn't it.

  • Candle acquistion is so... very... slow... IT'S SOOOO SLOW. I am not kidding, this is a real problem. It's way too slow.

  • Yes, you have side objectives you can do to get more but the number you get while doing them is laughable, and they don't even refresh after completing a region once you complete one, that's that for that run.

  • The Stagecoach is an interesting change of pace, I'm all for innovation so for the most part I don't mind it, though I feel like runs feel slower because of it when you've done a bunch of runs already. I found myself alt tabbing while waiting for the stagecoach to get to the next location, which I think is lame.

  • I miss the Shieldbreaker, Arbalest, Musketeer and Houndmaster...

  • And most importantly, I miss the Bounty Hunter... That is not my Tardif. While still badass, he isn't a permanent addition to your party, instead he is a temporary party member which you can recruit when an event appears in a tavern, which flavor-wise is kind of cool, but overall makes me very sad that I can't use my favorite guy whenever I want.

...And it's even more criminal because his animations are crazy good.
It still is a really good game and it's worth a buy but sometimes the game will feel incredibly unfair.

Also as a side note that will never happen, I want The Warlord to be a playable character, I just love his design so much.

Peak DLC, even though I have some gripes with it, the amount of content is insane, it's a 10/10.
The new weapons and weapon types, armor, skills, spells, music, exploration... everything is so good.
My favorite bosses from the DLC were Bayle, Messmer and Midra.
Also, the second to last fight was so emotional, it was absolutely phenomenal.

And it allows me to solo the game with the power of martial arts, so yeah, obvious 10/10.

First of all, I was playing as Tess longer than I was playing Henry... which is saying something.
It is a stamina bar going up and down simulator but at the same time I think it's kind of a cool look at how the town operated before... y'know.
Do NOT make the same mistake I did and start this DLC as a newcomer, it was kind of a chore to go through.
When the second half started and I saw that some other people needed help I literally said outloud: "Please just let me play as Henry again Idgaf about any of this..." but I'm glad I didn't have to help any of them to just get out of the DLC.
I wish this DLC was available a bit later as a cute quest you can go on if you wanted to, but also there should be a warning that you're about to play a whole different character for a long while.
Personally I wouldn't recommend.

I'll be honest, I thought this game wouldn't be as good as RoR2 and I was wrong!!!
Big Fun, Big Difficulty, Big Unlocks. Love.
Merc's my favorite man, especially when you unlock the parry move!
