For $20, you get to travel through a desert full of bizarre paper creatures for about three hours, in a bizarre, dreamlike world that is probably the product of at least *some* LSD.

A few of the "levels" (for want of a better term) can be a little frustrating, but the creature AI behaves incredibly well throughout and overall it's a really nice, chill experience. Probably not a bad intro to VR if you want to show off to friends and family or something - nothing here can hurt you the player, and most of the gameplay is nice and simple. Plus, there's a sandbox mode to screw around in if you're into that.

In my case, it also came with the "Folded Edition" for pancake displays, but please don't waste your time with that. This unconditionally works best in VR.

VR games are categorically marked incompatible with Steam Deck, but I found this title works well in Proton. There are some pretty distracting visual artifacts on the terrain from time to time though. I have yet to compare with Windows to see if that's a universal issue or not.

the most basic, simple, straightforward VR game known to man. nothing has been changed since the days of the original VIVE because it is without flaw. cut blocks in half to the beat. go fast. realize you've been tricked into doing cardio.

keep playing anyway until you don't look like you stay inside all day.

Easy buy if you played the original. Slightly harder sell if you haven't for reasons I can't begin to explain without spoiling - but probably still worth it. Must be played with no knowledge of any new content.

Annoying graphical issues (z-fighting, crosshair does not appear) on non-Windows platforms at time of writing.

8/10 would get lost, call for rescue, enable silent running because I thought it would save fuel, and blow up in the vacuum of space again

's pretty good.

That's it, that's the review. It's a infinite neon 80's sci-fi universe. Is good.

Works essentially flawlessly for singleplayer in Proton. Multiplayer is dicey in spots, but that might be universal jank. You can pretty reliably drop in on your friends without effort though.

you know what, no.

Gonna be "that guy." The horror aspect is kinda weak, the dating sim part is a slog, the fourth wall brushes are kinda meh.

Fun to watch a streamer play, maybe. A pretty underwhelming experience to have for yourself, unless it's 3AM or something I guess.

(Also, this game is written in Python, runs fine on MacOS, but doesn't package for Linux, because nothing makes sense anymore.)

Oh hey, a rogue-like I can actually tolerate. Nice.

The permanent upgrades, weapon unlocks, etc, make for immediately obvious progression, which is far more satisfying than being told that an item has been added to an RNG pool or something. Upgrading the House of Hades is also nice, though it feels slower than upgrading Zagreus. Maybe that's just because you see the House less often.
The fact that every bit of progression comes from earning some currency and spending it how you choose - rather than how you randomly encounter it - helps too.

There is also a dedicated button to pet the dog. Somehow, only 35% of players have used this button enough times.

It's unfortunate that there's no native Linux build (like Supergiant's earlier titles, Bastion and Transistor), but the game runs fine in Proton. (I'd bet a Linux build is workable, but simply hasn't been for some reason.)
