Endulge in this amazing game and let your imagination go wild while you creating your personal space colony.

Introduction

Planetbase is a colony building strategy/simulation game from Madruga Works. In Planetbase, you first start out with a handful of colonists and bots with respective profession and duties. Your primary job is to create a self-sufficient colony to sustain your population and gradually improve and expand your colony to support increasing colonists and visitors. In such a dire condition, your survivability depends on your management skills and strategic thinking.

Gameplay

Despite being a colony building game, Planetbase did not fail to deliver stunning graphics with amazing clarity. The texture and shadow is exceptionally well-done. The game is designed down to the smallest detail, for example, the beautiful and starry night sky can be seen reflected on Solar Panel. The UI is great, the menu is easy to use and only allocates a small space. Besides that, there is a notification system which will alert you when there are surfacing issues such as the death of colonist, a sandstorm, etc. Oh, by the way, you might want to watch out for meteors. As an impatient person, I enjoy the fast forward feature very much. The game will revert to its normal speed when an issue occurs which I found either annoying or helpful at times.

There are 4 planets to choose from with increasing difficulty and different conditions. Choose the location of your base wisely, the geometrical factor will affect the expansion of your colony. Besides that, Planetbase offers a respectable type of buildings ranging from solar panels to wind turbine to processing plants. Each and every building plays an important role in the development of the colony and the production chain. One thing that I absolutely love about the game is the ability to place various equipments in the buildings. For example, you may place a water dispenser in the Canteen (Should have probably used a cooler example...)

As mentioned, management skills is compulsory for a successful colony. During the later stage, you may construct Starports and Landing Pads to welcome colonists, traders and visitors. Hence, you would need to carefully manage the colonist immigration flow to ensure you have the people with the right skills. Terrorist would start to appear gradually as your prestige increases, those ****** would disguise as colonist or visitors, so be extremely cautious. This game encourages a strategic mindset, it makes you think twice before doing carrying out an action or building. You will most certainly ask yourself if placing a certain building at that location lengthen the time of processing a certain material.

Pros
  • Stunning and Breathtaking-graphics
  • Easy and Straight to Point UI
  • Variety of Infrastructures and Raw Resources
  • Achievements and Trading Cards

Cons
  • AI Seems to be Stupid At Times - When linking multiple buildings into a triangle-shape link, the engineer would get trapped in the middle after it is done and is unable to get out. You can only choose to destroy one of the connections or let him die. I obviously chose the latter.

  • Inefficient trading system - You can only exchange one item at a time or 10 if holding down shift. It’s a pain when you wish to trade in a big batch or pay for expensive items. Besides that, we don’t have the ability to charge commissions like traders.

  • Unrealistic Technology - You purchase technologies (at a high price) rather than researching them. Technologies like GM Veggies mentioned that “It will kill you” or something along those lines is kinda taunting. What is the point of purchasing something expensive that you will never and can’t use?(I still use it anyways)

  • Unable to Build Multiple Colonies - I really did wish that I can build separate colonies all in one planet where colonist may visit each other instead of linking everything together.

Final Thoughts / Result

As a HUGE fan of colony-building games, I would say that Planetbase is one of the best out there. Many people said that it’s hard but you’ll manage after a few retries. Hopefully, the developers would add choices for guns and include aliens as well! But as for now, it’s time for me to continue my 9-hour Planetbase streak.

Introduction

Fallout 4 is a first person and third person open world role playing shooter genre developed by Bethesda Softworks, the developers of other very successful games like the Elder Scrolls series and the Dishonoured series, not to mention previous Fallout releases such as Fallout: New Vegas and Fallout 3. Released on 10 November last year, it has gained worldwide acclaim and approval.

Gameplay

The game takes place 10 years after the events of Fallout 3, ignoring the multiple endings of the previous game. Controlling the life of a fully voiced character sculpted by the player, the game quite violently introduces you to the expansive environment of the Commonwealth, the remnants of the once proud city of Boston. Now a crumbling ruin from collapsing skyscrapers to toxic green swamps,a changed humanity attempts to rebuild its former past, always on the edge of another collapse. Choices of the character will alter the course of the entire game as he/she continually gains experience that mold new useful skills to the player’s preference.

Pros

+ Massively improved graphics and totally revamped game engine sets this apart from all other Fallout releases. Old players will stare open mouthed as time does not freeze when your player is in dialogue and your player has his/her own unique voice.
+ Combat is way more flexible and immersed than before liking to that of Battlefield and Call of Duty style of fast action and split decisions and of course retaining the iconic V.A.T.S. ability.
+ Dialogue has gained a ton more depth and feel with a cinematic camera and truly divergent options that change the conversation outcome (whether someone tries to kill you or not).

Cons

- Currently a bit overpriced at 49 USD or RM 199 but will reduce in the coming months.
- Game may encounter some bugs and glitches during play, several of which could be game breaking.Could be fixed through patches in the near future. (A percentage of bugs in Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim from 2011 have never been fixed by Bethesda.)

Final Thoughts

A spectacular joint effort that has over paid off.Gamers would have no trouble spending hundreds of hours playing when they get it if their PC/Xbox/PS doesn't cook in the process. Also showcases real life issues and experiences.

Serious Sam 2

Serious Sam 2,a campaign game and a FPS shooter is the sequel to Serious Sam: The Second Encounter. The main objective of this game is to bring down Mental and his vile armies. For that, the player has to battle through thick jungles, murky swamps, frozen tundra, and futuristic cities. The player is able to obtain better gear and epic vehicles as time progresses. Tired of campaign? No worries, Serious Sam 2 offers co-op and deathmatch chaos. Besides that, its soothing soundtrack and scenic levels motives the player to carry on their endeavour.

Pros

+ Easy to control and navigate the character.
+ Cartoony graphics.
+ Beautiful maps and environment.
+ Unique maps and levels, battle accross more than 40 levels!
+ Contains different "species" of enemies including bosses.
+ An array of weapons, vehicles and turrets that keeps you wanting for more.

Cons

- Players start each level with 100 health regardless of whether the player had more or less at the end.
- Have a life system which some might find annoying.
- Players loose Serious Bombs between levels.
