It's like DayZ, but worse in every possible way.

Why aren't you just playing DayZ?

Probably the best atmosphere in a game outside of the Metro series. This game is a brilliant gem for anywho who believes games can be art, and even then the varied storylines, characters, and suspenseful gameplay makes it an intense ride from start to finish. Name one other game with this much replay value that still keeps the atmosphere on playthrough 2.

This is probably the best written shooter I've ever played. Possibly one of the best written games, even. But ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥'s a short ride, no matter how good it is. 6 hours and you're done.

I get that a game like this shouldnt advertise the multiplayer. I get that the point is writing, about the horrors of war, about what one man's mind can do, not shooty fun spunkgargleweewee action. This is definitely an artistic, beautifully presented game. But if you're going to make a game this short, at least give SOME sense of replayability. As it is, this is a graphic novel with crosshairs.

Play it once, see the other endings to think of What If, and then sigh and uninstall it.

Aside from the mind-boggling lack of online multiplayer, and the fact that a bug prevents you from getting the good ending outside of expert mode, a great game. Now if only they would fix the bug, I would play it more than once ever. :/

Great game. Lots of replay value, lots of mindless fun along the ride of a decent story and well executed shoot and loot, and on top of that it runs great despite the good graphics (as of release, at least).
LOADS better than Riptide too, so enjoy this game all you want, the sequel is an unfortunate turd.

Only major con to me is that 3/4 of the characters are unlikable ♥♥♥♥♥, but luckily the differences basically only exist in a couple voice clips and skill trees, as they're all together in cutscenes, and online co-op is clunky and seems to grant no actual benefit over playing solo other than making it easier.

Probably the most satisfyingly messy melee combat ever put in an FPS. Arguably even the best melee FPS ever made, honestly.

Pick it up and splatter some dead things.

This game was a terrible, cluttered mess when it first came out. Boring as all hell unless you like grinding. And I dont mean fun grinding, I mean like playing the Cookie Clicker game grinding. It was a mind-numbingly boring timesink at best and a carpal tunnel generator at worst.

And now apparently a new developer owns it and its pay-to-win on top of being bad.

Apparently it is possible to make a bad game worse. Who knew!

I reccommend this game, but only with one big asterisk next to it. This game is good... in potential.
Dead Man's Switch is fun, but feels kinda short, and that's really all you get at the onset. The real good of this game is the fact that it's a way to both tell your own stories, run campaigns with numbers attached for others, or enjoy those campaigns that people toss up on the workshop or otherwise.

The best part, to me, is the full ability customization. Rather than limiting you to the severity of most of the actual tabletops, this game does its own thing, more like the old console games back in the day, rather than duct taping itself to the tabletop rules like most tabletop video game adaptations. You wanna play an 'wared up ork street sammy and pick up a couple spells just for that special occasion? Go nuts. You wanna play a luddite mage and sneak in a few points to make yourself stupidly good with a sniper rifle? Have fun.

Honestly, my only major complaint is that the availability of character customization options is incredibly limited. One face per race/gender combo, and your only real options are a selection of like 10 hairstyles and colors shared across all races, genders, and classes. And the troll looks like a spiky idiot at that. Top it off with the fact that armor only comes in one piece deals, and you're gonna be seeing a lot of a very blah character for a good long time.
But if you can get around looking like the same jackass with a bad picture for the whole game, then you pick this ♥♥♥♥ up and play the hell out of it.

(Note: I havent played Dragonfall yet, so this review doesnt include that. Maybe Dragonfall dispenses pure endorphins, idunno, it costs 15 bucks on its own on top of the game, it had better.)

Early Access Review
This game is good. Good enough to get me to give it a real review.

Pretty much this genre as of now has three contenders: Unturned, DayZ, and WarZ/Infestation Survivor Stories/Whateverthe♥♥♥♥. And having played them all, I can safely say that Unturned is the clear winner by a fair margin.

All three are essentially in beta. Infestation claims to be a finished product, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on that. From what's currently there, in all three, DayZ probably has the most challenge and atmosphere, Unturned has the best gameplay, while Infestation has, to its credit, the most customizability.

Unturned beats the others out easily in gameplay. While it is an early access, Unturned feels like a complete game, with no glaring bugs and no holes in the game where core elements are missing. If you explore long enough, the game has a surprising amount of depth in its crafting system and availability of weapons and items to derp around with, leaving it ahead of the other two by a large margin.

Honestly, the only real downside that Unturned has is that once you sorta know what you're doing, you pretty much make the game a cakewalk in singleplayer. Multiplayer is about what you'd expect from the genre, but it feels more fair in this game, somehow, even though the stakes are basically the same.

My only suggestion for the future is to be able to have two or more character slots, incase you want to have a dedicated offline character to Minecraft up a super base on your server, and explore, while having an infinitely recycling character slot for online.

Hesitant reccommendation, if only because John is pretty much the most fun playable character, bar none, and he alone makes me enjoy the experience.

This game feels like a botched expansion pack, doing a lot of things sideways rather than going forwards. It sticks you for almost the entire game in the bland jungle locale of the tail end of Dead Island 1. You know, NOT the fun beachside hotel part you liked. The sound feels less polished and more bleepy bloopy and less scenic. The graphics look slightly worse, I think, and the game seems less optimized than the previous one.
The new defense missions dont really add anything terribly fun, and on the whole they just feel like a section shoehorned in that bogs down the pace of the game. On the other hand, it does actually make you feel like the other survivors aren't just appearing in cutscenese like the first game.

It just feels like the game is an expansion pack that holds the awesome new character hostage in a weird trade for slightly worse optimization and overall aesthetic. Its fun, but its a step sideways, not forward.
