quests and npcs: bland, dumb, emotionless conversation - going from Baldur's Gate 3 to this was shocking
gameplay loop: lacking in many regards, overly complicated, clunky and poorly described ingame, but wow is it addicting and fun to just explore planets, set up outposts, design your ship, loot and repeat. so far side quests have been 10x better than main quest/companion stuff.
6/10 would recommend

This game is basically The Witcher 3 but in the Harry Potter universe with vastly inferior quests. Probably worth the money, but don't buy it for the story or quest content - buy it for the open world and exploration which is simply fantastic.

A lot of handholding during quests and puzzles, the NPCs will give you the solution if you just AFK for 2 minutes. Choices don't matter, and if you chose to "keep something secret" your character will simply expose it later without your choice in the matter. Most quest outcomes are predictable and most of the plot is too. I love the fetch quests where you can basically choose to screw over the quest-giver and simply keep the "fetch quest item". Some quests have jumpy dialogue where the side-characters suddenly know information which they should not.
Combat is satisfying when you perform successive combos and so-called "juggling" - however, on hard difficulty the later "tougher" enemies are extremely hard with 3 hits essentially killing you which might be inevitable with 6-7 different enemies ganging up on you - the game is ruthless in this regard, skill issue I guess... Some enemies are immune to juggling and almost all spells which is kinda boring, but similar to Witcher 3 you should use specific tools for specific enemies. Finding and exploiting enemy weakness is fun but can be kinda tedious with multiple enemies attacking at once. Using and crafting consumables (like plants and potions) is fun. Sandbox system is fun.
My favorite part is the collectibles and finding cool outfits and wand handles, and my favorite line of the game is "Mine now, demiguise".

Overall 8/10.

Don't mind all the negative reviewers who are mad about their overpowered unbalanced early access loot being inaccessible.
I had 400+ hours in Dungeon Defenders 1, both on PC and on Xbox, and I am definitely going to play it again after this one.
For new players to the Dungeon Defenders series:
If you have never played Dungeon Defenders 1, go buy that instead of this one. It is much better.
For everyone else:
This review is mostly neutral. I think Dungeon Defenders 1 is an overall better game. However, this game is also fun and a fine game, just not as refined and perfect as the first one.
The graphics in this game is definitely overall worse than in Dungeon Defenders 1.
The UI is absolutely terrible and very clunky.
The character movement is clunky and feels less smooth than in DD1.
The first one definitely had better map progression and a refined reward system. I was young when I first played the original and I distinctly remember the grind and thought I had to put into progressing through the maps. This one is just too easy or the map progression is based solely on grinding gear and no actual strategy is involved other than "defend the least amount of intersections where enemies meet", which is a sad way for a tower defense game to end up, in my opinion a tower defense game should involve some form of clever thinking (like a puzzle) to solve the map and each map should be different in strategy. This game does not use the fact that it is fully 3D in any clever way and is frankly boring in respect to a tower defense game.
The map selection screen is severely lacking in features, and configurable options for each map offering some kind of score multiplier would be nice, but is missing.
The game doesn't have a score system as in DD1 which is disappointing.
On the other hand, this game features some quality of life improvements over DD1, such as a loot auto collector with filters, auto sell loot.
The level design of the new maps is actually quite good and the hero combat is better than in DD1.
The tower defense (probably the most important part) is just as good as in DD1 if not better.
The towers feel more powerful in this one with stats that actually matters other than just pooling everything into damage.
The game is lacking in content. They didn't have to copy every map from the old game. New content is not bad, just as long as it is of the same standard as in DD1.
The game currently only features some extra maps that were not in the original, and those are absolutely up to standard with the original DD1 ones.
The actual gameplay is quite fun and is just as good as in the original.

TL;DR:
with "standard" being DD1;
- Overall feel of the game is below standard.
- Gameplay is same or better than standard.
- UI is clunky and much worse than standard.
- Graphics are subjective, but in my opinion much worse than standard.
- Severely lacking in new content that is better or same as standard.
- The game does not have any new interesting and refined mobs over DD1 or other special features.
- There's nothing new about this game other than some small QoL features.

Take this review as a neutral review, as the game is actually fun to play, and you should try it if you have already reached Ultimate Gear in Dungeon Defenders 1. In my opinion this game just needs more refinement in almost every way, and it should have been better than DD1 not worse or the same, but it should have been just as or more refined and have the same or more (or equally as much new) content. The game should have been in early access for at least 2 years more, so maybe wait 2 years or more if the developers are still actively improving the game in that time.

Took about 30 hours to complete every single quest and side-quest in this game on hardcore mode. (I played half the first day in normal mode and then decided to switch). I made a character with max points in Intelligence, the rest in Psyche and no points in Physique or Motorics. Some ingame-"thoughts" (passives) are just blatantly over-powered (especially the "gives 10 XP if pass this passive stat check" - and the game sometimes felt too easy and forgiving, so hardcore mode is definitely recommended if you want to play this game.
It has an amazing stat system where every stat has it's own part of your brain. So in a conversation or situation different parts of your body (stats) will come with their solution to the situation or problem at hand - the encyclopedia stat comes with small facts, the rhetoric stat reads what people mean behind their words, the drama stat tells and sees lies, the logic stat uses logic, the suggestion stat uses personality, empathy uses empathy, electrochemistry uses knowledge of drugs, perception discovers through seeing, hearing and smelling.
Every stat has it's own way of adding to the dialogue or situation at hand, both through passively chiming in and through active stat checks.

PROS:
Really great writing and story
Perfect implementation of stats, skill points, passives and stat checks.
Passive stat checks are an amazing way of story telling through your own characters abilities.
Somewhat open world (some of it is time-locked), where only your characters own abilities set the bar.
Really amazing character design and dialog.

CONS:
The story does not branch at all and seems mostly linear other than the order in which you do the tasks.
Really bad ending that has nothing to do with the rest of the game.
Sometimes your character just seems too stupid

Loved Dungeon Defenders 1, hated Dungeon Defenders 2 and now also hate Dungeon Defenders Eternity. Still going to play Dungeon Defenders 1 though :P The UI in this game is just not right, some features are missing from the original game, no one plays this game and the multiplayer is dead. I like the new features for showing better loot, but that is about it. Also this game features microtransactions in form of cosmetics while the original game only has paid DLC. I must say that the new visible armor looks nice and has a nice touch to the game.

Pros:
  • Visible Armor
  • Better Loot Sorting
  • No Hacked Gear
  • Crafting Gear
  • Same graphics as the original game

Cons:
  • Worse UI
  • Multiplayer Dead
  • Microtransactions
  • No Private Shops?
  • Long join time, even for private sessions
  • Now introducing coins instead of mana as currency

So overall a negative experience.
