So I love Hollow Knight. I'm not great at it, though. Over the course of the game I did "git gud" but not "gud" enough to complete the late game boss rush area. I finished with 108%. Honestly, it was such a a blast.

I took a day off of work to download and play Silksong. It is brutal. For a casual gamer (maybe casual+) some of the decisions seem cruel. It really feels geared towards the most hardcore HK players.

First, the positive. It is gorgeous. There is attention to detail everywhere. The story is great, the characters are cute and funny, the locations are larger and more intimidating. The sound and music is so good. Sometimes I find a pretty location and just sit and listen and watch for a minute. Hornet's movement is familiar, while still being new.

Now, gripes.

All my gripes are the things in every review. Double damage, surprise attacks, run backs that are long and brutal. I was having fun, but I put it down out of frustration A LOT. It's not that it was hard, it was hard to get better at. This is a major hurdle for a guy like me to get over in order to love this game.

In the game I took a ride with some friends. I discovered 2 new areas and I started to explore. I found a fast travel location that you have to pay to unlock. I didn't have enough money. So I go to farm. None of these bugs have the right money. I find another fast travel location, and now I need twice as much money. I still try to farm. Still no money. Then I die. Now I'm stuck in a new area where if I die again I lose all the money I even had to begin with with no way to get it back. I set the game down and walked away. It really feels like the base difficulty should be "hard" and we should have an option for "normal" and "easy".

So, what can I do?

Mods.

I rebalanced the difficulty with mods. The economy is fixed, the combat is fixed, and now I can focus on exploring and increasing my skill, instead of focusing on the frustration of dying in every new room.

The game is now amazing, and I have regained my joy. I still die, and fall, and get trapped, but it's more fair and more fun for a casual lower level gamer like myself.

This is hands-down the BEST dungeon crawler I have ever played! The 8 bit look is just DRIPPING style! I haven't seen a better looking 8 bit game ether! It's easy to control, fast to master, and has AMAZING re-playabilty!

This is a game that takes a few hours to complete, and a few more to get 100%. It is not hard. Think of it like a 3D NES game. Just long enough, with the focus on fun and exploration.

I just finished the game. It is really quite good. The acting is good. It just feels a bit awkward/squeamish peering in on a person's story like this, which is why people might think the acting is bad.

I bought this in the HB Narrative Bundle. I don't understand people complaining about this being a non-game. You got it in a "narrative bundle" and this is pretty much ALL narrative. They would probably complain that the ice-cream truck doesn't sell hamburgers.

Keep a piece of paper to write down future search terms, watch all available videos for each search term, and let the story unfold. It's fun and a fun story.

I got Mr. Bree+ in a Groupees bundle a while ago. It was download only. I downloaded it, beat it, loved it. Then they released Desura keys. I activated it on Desura, beat it again. Now it has Steam keys and I am working my way through yet again.

The levels are greatly designed in that you are personally building skill while playing. Some are devilishly hard, but super satisfying once you beat them. The controls are perfect for this type of game.

I would say it is as hard as the first 4 worlds of Super Meat Boy. So it does not get impossibly hard, but it does get frustratingly hard. I have rage-quit a couple of times.

Super fun, awesome game.

I was very surprised by how good this game is. I was expecting an Elder Scrolls clone, but I got a fresh exciting story with well thought out characters. The voice acting is good. The graphics are good. Levelling and upgrades are handled nicely. All in all this is a great game to pick up and get absorbed in for hours at a time. Also cheating is super easy with the developer mode.

Wow, what a simple game mechanic implemented so well! There is SO MUCH to do in this game, and really, there is almost nothing to do. Everything revolves around playing shufflepuck (air hockey). Each character you play against has their own play style and weakness and special attack. You have to build up your actual skill (instead of building up stats), but you can also purchase upgrades to make it easier as well.

It is so simple and so fun! Why can't I stop playing???
