I first played this on GamePass and it was love at first sight. I had to buy it; it was so good I couldn't resist owning it for myself! This game is waaaaayyy cheaper than it should be for the literal hours of content it provides. It's easily a $30 game for half that price, I mean that. Classic Metroidvania gameplay with a tough-as-nails twist, beautiful artwork, lovely music, deep lore and absolutely charming, adorable characters. This game made me rage, laugh, cry, contemplate, and crave more.

You play as The Knight, a tiny bug creature armed only with the ability to consume souls to heal and an old, worn Nail for protection. Unable to speak, you can only listen to others' issues to help them; unable to give up, you have a determination tough as stone despite your tiny size. As you play through more of the game and beat punishingly tough foes, you will become greater, better, stronger - gaining new powers, exploring the hollow shell of Hallownest, and unveiling a destiny greater and sadder than any could ever have imagined. I came to cherish and love the Little Knight with every fiber of my being, and learned to build resilience that took me through the rest of the game and, dare I even say, life itself? Hell, if I can beat the Mantis Lords, I can beat anything I set my mind to, right?

All of the DLC for it is included with the game, and all of it's great. Team Cherry has thrown together something special here, and I really, really can't think of many other games like it right now, maybe the Ori series and of course other classic games of the genre. The controls are some of the tightest and snappiest I have ever seen in a game, it feels so very satisfying to move in this game and every hit of the Nail feels like it has weight. There's aspects to the combat that are tough to master, but make you feel like a gaming god when you get them down. The Charm system lets you play how you want, customizing the Knight to your style of play or to enemies coming up next. And of course, like any good game of this genre, when you mess up and die, it feels like it's YOUR fault for not trying hard enough and getting good enough, not the game's fault for glitching or lagging (although on some computers and especially while streaming for me, it does sometimes lag). It blends seamlessly the feel of a Dark Souls style game with the classic Metroidvania gameplay so many of us love. I've played this game through so many times, and yet I keep coming back to wander through its brokenly beautiful world again and again and again.

Silksong can't come fast enough. Until then, Git Gud!
