This game destroyed shooters for me. Nothing compares. Turbo Overkill has the best movement I've ever seen in a FPS, once you're used to it everything else is boring. It's a fast paced boomer shooter with a high skill ceiling. Replayability is high with collectibles, modifiers and trying higher difficulties. You unlock upgrades along your first playthrough with which you can make your own build supporting your playstyle. Soundtrack is good as well.

Really bad PC port, don't bother, play the N64 version in an emulator.

This game is made for children. Then there's me, a 30+ year old man-child having a blast with this.

To give you an idea what this game is, think GTA without guns and Human Fall Flat. There's something to discover in literally every corner (Puzzles, collectibles, new clothing). Even if still in early access, by now the game has tons of content to offer and will keep you occupied for quite a while.

I highly recommend to play with at least one partner (locally or online) since this will make a lot things much easier and faster.

Solid core but needs MUCH refinement. No news or game updates for over a year, seems abandoned, stay away. Don't buy unless the devs show up again.

Take this review with a bit of a grain of salt, I've played this game last time in Apr '23.

Still a fun survival crafting game with lots of mods (workshop). I mostly play singleplayer (and coop) with mods and adjusted game-parameters, otherwise I would not touch the game because the defaults are way too much grind.

Things went downhill when chinese Tencent bought Funcom in 2020. Since then, no further DLC has been released, which was replaced with a battle pass and ingame store which preys on FOMO. Sorcery that was introduced did add nothing worthwhile and can be ignored (the ONLY worthwhile thing sorcery does add is transmutation aka giving items the look of another, but that can be done with mods even better).

Performance has never been that good, don't expect to run it well on a low-end PC. Purges (random waves of enemies attacking your base) have always been broken and from what I read are even more as of Apr '24. Other reviews speak of lots of (longstanding) bugs, but I personally have never encountered many.

If you're like me and play singleplayer/coop, this still might be worth a try because you can tailor the game very much to your liking. If you want to play multiplayer, at least stay away from the official servers, from what I read.
Buy on sale only.

Fun game overall and possibly the racing game with the highest skill ceiling.

BUT the second half of the current Season (Winter 2024) is paywalled, unlike past Seasons.

You cannot call this F2P anymore. The game is now basically subscription based, with only a yearly subscription of 20€ available. Competitive content and user created maps are behind that paywall.

Typical Ubisoft greed. Uninstalled, will never touch again.

* Run-off-the-mill open-world collectathon gameplay-loop with a bit of stealth. Don't understand why this game was so hyped.
* The worldbuilding and story are interesting but were not enough to keep me playing.
* Kept unpredictably crashing on my all AMD PC.

* The thumbs down is for the ♥♥♥♥ optimisation. Needs upscaling to run decently even on a high end PC. Devs even admitted the game was built around upscaling. That is not what upscaling was meant for. Don't buy to incentivise such development for the future. Upscaling looks blurry and TAA has inevitable ghosting artifacts.
* Found the game itself to be fun, but nothing that dragged me enough in to play through more than once or to try multiplayer.
* Beaware of the last boss if playing on normal, there is a huge unexpected difficulty spike.

I loved the original game, whit this, don't bother, play the original N64 version in an emulator.

Very bad PC port, which does not accommodate for modern hardware.

Read other negative reviews to get an idea what the issues are (e.g. screen resolution, camera bug).

This is an odd one. There are a few weird gamedesign choices which are not bad IMO.

* Your ship is NOT flying around in a 3D space, but on a flat plain.
* The tutorial calls the combat itself "naval style" with broadside cannons. You also have turrets, which automatically shoot the enemies who fly around in 3D. Weird at first, but it works. Your Broadside cannons can be aimed sideways at a limited angle but lock automatically precisely onto enemies.
* Warpdrive behaves weird. What I observed is that the warpspeed slows down when you are near POIs, possibly to easen manual stops. So usually when warping your speed goes up and down which is annoying if you simply want to go quickly from point a to point b.

So far everything else is pretty standard. You can do various things like bounties, trading and mining. You can buy better weapons and equipment as well as better ships. Acquiring the money for this feels rather grindy. A story exists. The music is good, but gets repetitive fast.

Verdict: Nice and fun time waster with no need to complete the game. Buy on sale only.
