If Hollow Knight was the Mona Lisa, Silksong is the Sistine Chapel. It builds on the world of Hollow Knight in a beautiful way, and the mechanics are a huge step up from the first. Combat feels like a dance, fluid and smooth. The art is immaculate. The music, glorious. HK broke ground with it's visuals, storytelling, and exploration mechanics, but Silksong truly mastered it all. Do note that this game is very difficult, and many player give up before the end of Act 1. With no difficulty setting, it will come as a challenge to players new to metroidvania or souls-like games. Everything you do revolves around your skill, there are no handouts. It makes winning mean something. The feeling of beating that boss you've spent plenty of time and effort on is unmatched. Not to mention the countless play styles from the items and crests you receive. I love the deep metaphors within the game and the messages they convey. It takes on powerful topics such as religious psychosis, SA, capitalism, slavery, and the weight of living up to your parent's expectations. All of this done with bugs and a couple "POSHANKA"s, for good measure. 10/10, GOTY nominee for a reason.
