Only VR Video player I've found that reliably works on Linux (via Proton - see potondb for tweaks to unsandbox it and allow it to access all files).

This is the best way I've found to watch 3D movies on linux. It couldn't detect my NFS media server share, but I just mounted it as a local drive and it works fine. The only "issue" I've run into is an aspect ratio issue when playing back Full SBS (probably Full OU too, but i haven't tested) - the player seems to assume half sized, which is much more common, so the movie is twice as wide as it should be. It's simple to override in the player by selecting the correct aspect ratio.

It would also be nice to be able to toggle spacial audio without having to return to the main menu.

Regardless of minor possible improvements, it solves exactly the problem I paid money for it to - Stereoscopic video in an HMD in linux. I'm very satisfied with my purchase.

Brief Linux port technical review (i.e, not reviewing gameplay/story)

CPU: i7-3770k @ 4.20GHz
GPU: Nvidia GTX 970
Distro: Mint 18 x64 Cinnamon
Kernel: 4.4.0-42-generic
GPU Driver: Nvida 370.28

Right off the bat, let me say this game performs phenomenally and looks great. Running an Nvidia 970 with every setting cranked up to its highest possible value (beyond the presets), I get a solid 60-80 FPS at 1080p. The only time I've noticed the framerate drop is, oddly, around numerous latern/candles (not sure exactly how to describe them), which only bottomed out at 48fps. The issue seems to be limited to these particular objects and no other sources of fire (like burning cars) or other graphically demanding things (like giant sand storms) seems to bring it down at all.

The game, like many these days, seems to handle controllers relatively well. I plugged in my 360 controller while the game was still running and automatically detected it and instantly switched the buttons displayed on the interface upon using it, and switched it back upon using mouse/keyboard (you can swap between the two, no problem). My only complaint here, which, I know is nitpicking, but the game doesn't seem to be able to handle simultanious controller and mouse/keyboard input well. As absurd as I'm sure it may seem to some, I like to be able to use my controller to drive with one hand and my mouse to aim with the other, and while I'm using the mouse the controller input goes undetected, so I'm not able to drive and shoot as well as I'd like. The slow-mo and aim-assist makes aiming fairly easy to do with the controller, so this is a pretty minor gripe.

The audio seems to be great (using the headphone configuration), but I've had a few relatively trivial issues here as well. When opening something with the crowbar (I think it's called something else in game), the sound for when something is finally opened seems to be absent. I also had an odd experience where the audio was very slightly muffled off and on for about 15 minutes. I can't say whether or not this is normal game behavior though, just the two things that stood out as seeming odd.

Overall, this definitely seems to be a great port. The few issues I've encountered are minor to the point of being something that could easily go entirely unnoticed without looking for it. While the negatives may seem highlighted over the good things here, that's mostly an artifact of any port review - if it's done perfectly there's really nothing at all to talk about, and so much of this port seems to be that.

If the game sounds interesting to you and you're a linux gamer, I'd definitely suggest picking it up.

Edit: Here's a video showing off an example of a low-fps area. The video was captured and uploaded at 60fps (so watch at either 720p60 or 1080p60 quality). The video also shows an example of one of the audio bugs (at the start of the fight). It may potentially contain spoilers.

It's Borderlands... kinda. If you just want more of the same gameplay as Borderlands 2, this will get you there. If you want the jokes and writing or Borderlands, skip it.

You can tell they really tried to make this game funny, but the problem is they fundamentally don't understand what's funny about the first game. Comedy is the glue that binds a Borderlands game together. It's what determines the plot points, missions, side-missions, objectives, easter eggs, names, characters, etc. It pervades the entire game, so a failure in the comedy department knocks the whole game down quite a bit. Instead of smirking at a witty reference, I'm cringing a clumsy one, or a joke that makes no sense in the esablished context.

I also have some issues with the pacing, lack of diversity in enemies, fast travel locations, and other aspects of this game, but they're easy to overlook for me - the uninteresting writing is not.

PAYDAY 2 started its life as a very fun 4 player co-op game.

Unfortunately, the developers have shown repeatedly that they don't care in the slightest about what the community wants and is willing to fundamentally change the game mechanics on a whim. If you try the game and enjoy it, don't expect it to last. The game WILL change. It aslways has, and rarely for the better.

You may see the developers saying things like "We need to communicate better" after they've manged to hit the community beehive with a baseball bat, as if they didn't know they'd get stung, but this is just lip service. It's what they've always said when they piss off the community. They've never actually done it and there's no reason to think they'll start.

Essentially, this game is The Original Star Wars trilogy on Bluray... manipulated beyond recognition and not anywhere near the original product. The difference here is, this "George Lucas" is still actively tinkering with the product, making it worse and worse, and trying to charge you more for the sake of his efforts to destroy something you enjoy.

Solid single player, but GTA:O is inexcusably broken and Rockstar has been actively hotile twoard the modding community.

If the only thing you care about is a solid, unmodified, single player experience that only runs on Windows, this game is fine. If you want more out of the game, you shouldn't waste your money.

Buy this game. Not only is it a PHENOMENAL puzzle game (coming from someone who thought the default puzzles in Portal 2 were dull and unchallenging), but it's remarkably well optimized. My graphics card died, and I played it at 1080p at reasonable graphics (not miniumum around 30+fps avg) on integrated intel graphics.

You heard that right. I found this game entirely playable WITHOUT a dedicated graphics card. On native linux, no less. Portal 2 doesn't even pass that test. This game is truly a PC masterpiece. Even if you don't like this kind of games, support the dev. This game deserves your money so more games like this are made. Buy it on sale. Whatever. It's amazing.

Need more convincing? Okay. If you're the story kind of person, you can dive deep into this phiosophical head trip that dives into what it means to be human and a god and the legacy of sentient beings. It's not the longest story ever told, but an important one nonetheless. This is a cerebral story, but not one that imposes itself on you. You have no obligation to care why you're there and solving puzzles. The patjh forward is clear regardless, but there's depth if you want it. Secrets if you want them. All sorts of easter eggs if you want to hunt for things.

Still not convinced? Give it a try. With the new steam refun policy the only thing you have to lose is time and bandwidth.

I love this game.
