Satisfyingly fair to be relaxing, while still providing enough challenge to breed creativity.

Honestly, such a simple pleasure. Yes it looks a tad unpolished, but it is. However, this doesn't subtract from what I think is a game with good old, humble RPG elements. The dialogue, as stated by other reviews, is pretty dismal. The story quest doesn't seem much better so far. The game shines in it's combat, the levelling choices (including the controversial choice for respecs) and level scaled areas which hark back to the RPGs of old. It isn't for anyone looking for a polished game but it's definitely for those that enjoy solid RPG elements; even if the play-through is short and clunky.

An amazing story of how a game can have a catastrophically terrible launch, leaving pretty much every player feeling disgustipated. Then over the course of a few years, listening to the community, providing mammoth size free updates, turn into genuinely one of the most immersive and well crafted games that to this day still has more ambition in its concept than 95% of other games ever made. A real labour of love from Hello Games and if you don't know what they went through to get here than you should either buy it and play it, or go and read about that tumultuous journey they had to get here then buy it and play it..

DOOM..

For me it's a franchise that started a love affair with games that would last a life time.

I used to stay up late, sitting next to my dad watching him fighting his way through hordes of demons, giving me hints and tips here and there whether he noticed or not. I remember watching him walk across a beam that was easy to fall from by placing the crosshairs on the beam, to this day I still navigate the tight, tall spaces in the same way. The way he was diligent for secrets, not chasing the high scores of rushing a level, but finding all that could be found. It all rubbed off.

The originals were superb, for their day, and even now. Everything about those oldies were golden. The music. The Graphics. The Characters. The level design. All of it. It, in my opinion, did not deserve a remastering in modern day technology simply because it was already nigh on perfect. It was not broken and therefore did not require fixing.

The reincarnation of DOOM that hit PC and Consoles some years ago was titled DOOM 3. This iteration was in fact terrible. Sorry 'id' software, you know, I know it, we all know it.. However..

You have more than redeemed yourselves with this reboot. As a life long DOOM fan I felt so much nostalgia, so much fun and feeling. There's hundreds of nods to the original, and hundreds of ways you did actually improve it, which I wasn't sure was possible. This game has got to be one of the most underrated games of 2016, but maybe that's just the nostalgia talking...

Another thought I conjured up about this game, while playing the saddeningly short but epic campaign, is that it proves that Unreal Tournament 2004 can also be remade with the same flair, fantastic Multiplayer and sense of power and accomplishment that the original had without worrying about that horrible foray that was Unreal Tournament 3.

Thank you id software, I really needed this to remember why I fell in love with games and why I looked up to my dad so much.
