(Update to anyone reading the comment below: I have since switched to Linux Mint Debian Edition instead, which has newer packages, drivers, etc. with better support for modern hardware and games than Zorin.)

@All capone no, it it still broken :(. I think there is a real risk that the developers will not fix it, and I wanted to play the game, so I installed the Linux distribution Zorin (https://zorin.com/) on an extra hard drive, and it works fine on that. I had to mess a bit around with the Squad graphic settings, like choosing DX11 and turning down some quality settings, but it works just fine then :).
