As somebody who's played the original Dead Space rather religiously, this remake is an objective upgrade to the original experience in every regard. Gameplay, combat loop, audio design, visuals, story, the soundtrack even, all upgraded and seamlessly woven in to fit in line with the current generation, and is set up to age like fine wine as the original has.

If you've played the original Dead Space, you owe it to yourself to give this remake a shot. If you've never played the original Dead Space, this is the perfect iteration of the game to play, because while I thought the original never needed a remake, I didn't realize how wrong I could be until I got my hands on this game. The original 2008 release managed to become one of my favorite games of all time, and the 2023 remake of it went well above and beyond what I thought was irreplaceable, and became my new favorite survival-horror game.

It's really good, and I think it's worth picking up even at base price.
