I didn't think it was possible to make a game better than DS1 or
Bloodborne

As the years go by, this game only becomes more solidified as the best RPG I have ever played.

This game was better when it didn't have a story and pretentious 600 hour players who called themselves "veterans". Incentivizes you to level useless items (to buy more potatoes) to progress rather than actually optimize your character and weapons which the game is actually created around. Tons of unused or buggy old content which is left to die while they make new things which break the game with absolute ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ like riven mods. This results in 90% of players playing the same 2 or 3 zones repeatedly depending on what they are trying to farm with the exception of relics. The new relic system feels like a chore compared to the void key system because of the way the drop RNG is designed to take artificially long to get specific items. Speaking of chores, the storyline and focus system in general appears to be where the majority of development investment has gone when it matters close to nothing to the base gameplay and attempts to be too many games it is not, including the new open world plains of eidolon, which feel like mmo chores for useless items for the rest of the game where you spend 90% of your time. Going back to the riven mods, having a static gear progression with very low spawn rates feels horrible. If the gear itself was all random it would fix this issue. Riven mods however were their attempt to implement this and it was even worse for RNG with exponential curves making it incredibly rare and expensive to get something nice. All the positives i've seen people say about this game are things which games like Path of Exile do significantly better. Specifically those defending the developer for being "ethical" or how the game is free so not to complain about the way it is structured, and that is like a mobile game on top of a broken mmo. That being said if you can ignore all of the downsides and just want to shoot things over and over for 1,000 hours just to get something someone with their credit card got in 20, this game might be for you. Maybe i'm getting too old to be playing ♥♥♥♥ like this.

Amazing completely free aRPG/dungeon crawler with theoretically infinite replayability with new builds and weapons. More items and areas added every 2 weeks as well as inovative new leagues and methods of play. Gameplay is deeper than the pacific ocean but starts very very slow. Most fun is at top level, however if you do not know what you are doing going in, it starts BRUTTALY slow and boring for the first few hours. Stick through it and you will be rewarded with one of the richest and most well thought out loot grinds to date. Years of fun.

Edit:
I wrote this review 8 years ago, I have put nearly an additional 4,000 hours into it on steam, about 6-7,000 off of steam, met the developers, met several lifelong friends, and played every patch for eight years. Nearly everything positive I said when I was 14 about this game still holds true today.
