This game is in a weird spot for me.

There is a lot to like about this game. The visuals are great, the sound design is amazing, two of the biggest parts of the Homeworld formula are hit just dead on. Wonderful, no notes.

The AI of the units, however, is lacking, and that is a rather large issue to have. Homeworld 3 adds in "terrain" to the formula, in the form of asteroids or the large structures you would always see in the background of Homeworld 1 and 2. It's not uncommon to have your units get snagged on the terrain, or go way around a way that was not shown to you with the little move conformation lines.

Additionally, units will often just ignore orders, like not guarding units they were ordered to. Two of my favorites with this are will the Support and Torpedo frigates. With the Supports, if you order a group of the to guard a group of ships, they won't, and will just pick a ship at random. Additionally, they will automatically assign themselves the Delta formation. When they assign themselves this formation, only the lead Support frigate will use its healing ability, so you have to tell the group of them that they have no formation at all, and that will mostly kinda help them go and heal stuff as a group. With the Torpedo frigates, they have an ability that lets them trade a lot of speed for a lot of range. When you have them set to aggressive stance, in which they attack anything in range, and they have this range buff on, they will not attack anything that is outside of their normal range without you telling them to. So, the range they search is not updated when you buff them.

Lastly, story. Not great. Honestly, I can see that they tried, but I think they missed the mark. Homeworld is a science fiction setting, with some space religion elements sprinkled in there. I feel Homeworld 3 strayed into science fantasy, which while not bad in and of itself, I don't feel like this story hit the mark, and felt a little too fantasy then science.

There is a solid foundation here, and so I think this could be a good game with some more love. I would say check back in 6-12 months, or after a few patches.

It doesn't seem to be disclosed anywhere on the store page, but this game uses both actors, and AI for its voice work. While I get it, you have to work with the budget you have, I really hope the devs are able to eventually scrape out all of the AI work, and have it fully voiced by actual people. Heck, I would be willing to donate my own time to helping do that, if I'm able to give the performance quality the devs are looking for.

Once that happens, I would love to come back and give this game another shot, because I really like the concept, and see lots of potential.

Edit: AI Disclosure is now on the store page.

Roguelite card game with space ships, cute art, and charming writing.

A little light at the moment, but if the devs continue doing as they have already, this is going to go from charming and fun, to an absolute banger.

At first, I was a little mixed on AC6. While the missions were great, arena was killer, amazing art direction, but I didn't like the healing, stagger mechanics(though they have always been in AC, just not quite like this), or the bosses.

I decided I would do the game without healing at all at first, and quickly realized that that was a mistake. Stagger was what it was. The bosses though, those I could not get behind.

Then, sometime after Sea Spider, I sat down with myself, and said that what I was wanting the game to be was what I remembered from when I was a kid through to my early 20s, filtered through those lovely nostalgia goggles, and that was doing this game, and myself, a disservice. Then I was able to see the game as it actually is.

AC6 is a fantastic game, and a great addition to the Armored Core franchise. This is a series that I have been hoping would come back for about 15 years now(5 does not count), and AC6 has been basically everything I could ever wish for. I really hope that Fromsoft keeps the series going, and that we will get a "Classics Collection" of all of the older titles.

Addendum: It's extremely rare that I 100% a game. This is one of those games.

I really want to like this game. It's got a great art style, nice personality, and can be genuinely fun. However, after being let out of the vs AI games they stick you in at the start, it seems like you get thrown to the wolves with regards to matchmaking. As a brand new player, I was getting matched up against people with Beta Player tags, playing characters that had crazy powerful AoE abilities, and was just getting dumpsterd. That's to be expected, to some extent, as a new player, but going from no hope match to no hope match a few times really starts to get old, fast. Maybe there is no matchmaking at all, and you are just stuck into games randomly, which would be fine, if there was some kinda indication as to that being what is going on.

This is a VR classic, and a must buy for anyone that wants to see what a well put together VR experience can be like.

This is about as close to as roguelite XCom as we are likely to get, and it does a good job of it.
