Had over 20 hours in this just playing skirmish battles, and that was before I'd even bought the armies I care most for in 40k. Neat tactics game and my only real issue with it is that I just want more, as currently anything outside of blood angels and tyranids is either paid dlc or simply not in the game and each army only has about 15 different units to choose from. Still though, it's the closest a digital 40k game has come to replicating the feel of playing tabletop with friends and that's good enough for me.

The black-and-white samurai film aesthetic is nice, even if a bit derivative, and is further aided by the choice to have fixed camera angles as the cinematography and framing provided remain well executed throughout. It never really outstays its welcome and the simplistic exploration and combat on offer here work in its favour, some annoying difficulty bumps aside. The only major drawback I have with this is how formulaic its story is, as it draws from samurai films of old in the worst way possible by recycling plenty of predictable tropes. A very solid 3/5 game otherwise.

Max's addiction to painkillers has given him superpowers. He can bend time to the point that bullets might as well be frozen, rooms full of mercs and goons watching in slow-motion terror as he does a Matrix reload in front of them, his own bullets completely unaffected. And he does this over and over and over, room after room after room, to the point you might think that Max Payne 2 is just a tech demo for its new stupidly over-tuned bullet time and nothing more. Thankfully its story is less shallow than its combat, as the noir romance between hard-boiled detective and femme fatale is more interesting than the plot of the previous game. Rockstar's money certainly shows in the more professionally done comic panels this time around, which while lacking the amateurish charm of the original, definitely benefit from the use of actual actors as it greatly helps deliver the serious and brooding nature of its narrative. As great as Sam Lake's face is, the switch to McCaffery's makes total sense and he totally sells the misery and trauma of Max's character (which of course is only further benefited from his amazing voice). While I find Max Payne 2's gameplay far more repetitive and less engaging than the first, I'd be lying if I said it wasn't still fun, it's just that I'll be more likely to replay 1 or even 3 over this one.

really fun, short and sweet shooter that ends right before it could risk dragging on too long. amazing soundtrack too.

Honestly, I'm more impressed with how well this turned out than anything else. Very nice variety of weapons and enemies even to the very end, and most importantly it all feels excellent to play. This is a level of polish on par with a Fromsoft title, which is why I wish I loved it more but a lot of it just felt like going through the motions to me. Despite how strong its combat is a lot of the bosses were hit-or-miss to me, not too many of the game's levels felt like they went beyond 'solid souls level', and the soundtrack is mostly forgettable as it tries too hard to replicate the sounds of its inspiration. I feel that Lies of P's greatest strength and weakness is how closely it homages the likes of Bloodborne and Sekiro, and maybe it's because I'm too strong of a fangirl for those, but it never quite surpasses the fun I have with them. Still excited to see what Neowiz does next because while I'm largely underwhelmed by how safe Lies of P is at times, it is the only non-Fromsoft souls-like that I have beaten and not dropped to go replay whatever Fromsoft game it reminded me the most of, so they certainly have that going for them!

Never got round to playing the first Remnant so I didn't really know what to expect from the second one at all but found it to be a pretty enjoyable souls-like shooter, especially co-op. The rogue-lite elements of procedurally generated worlds and dungeons alongside all kinds of different loot keeps the game fresh and there's a nice amount of depth to the build crafting here as well. Had a lot of fun making a busted mix of the damage reduction from the challenger class and a secret one I found that gives you a turret that shreds basically everything in the game. Only real criticism I have of the game is its incredibly uninteresting story and characters, especially the player character. From what I understand the first one didn't have voice acting for the player character and after hearing "whew that was a close one" for the third time in a row after shooting someone I have no idea why they thought it would be a good idea to change it.

Suda51 is one of the true auteurs in the videogame industry, No More Heroes may not be the most in-depth hack-and-slash around but it's brimming with far more personality and creativity than most other games I've played.
