TLDR: It is a very good game (and EDF) game with very lackluster dialogue and story.

I really like the game and have been having a blast with it. There are alot of characters and weapon variety which expands as you go into higher difficulties. Mission Structure is pretty similar however, this EDF does an amazing job at throwing as much as it can at you starting pretty early. First 10 levels or so are pretty easy and straightforward, and the battles get much larger going forward. It isn't that hard on normal, but you might run into some stressful missions. That being said, there are FOUR difficulties above normal and playing around on hard you can certainly see how insane the battles could get. If you want an edf game with good combat with lots of things to upgrade, unlock and experiment with than this is a great game. If you want an EDF game that has the charm of edf5 and 4.1 than stay away cause the dialogue is likely worth turning off entirely.

Sidenote:
I would recommend turning the voice volume of the characters lower than any other option of the game, because it is almost best read as subtitles with some chatter than actually hearing what is said. It's pretty bad and in no way entertaining unlike EDF5. However unlike EDF5, the dialogue is a bit less repetitive.
