Had a rough start for me but grew as I played it more.

They did a lot of things right: the combat is good for instance. Not too complex but feels like how a wizard fight would go down. I like that they set it in the time before HP. They still manage to do some fan service but it's cool that you can be your own character. Everything looks good as well.

The problem I have is two fold: one, it doesn't bring up that boarding school vibe that I liked so much in the books. It doesn't feel like you're a student at all, more like a visitor who drops in from time to time. At the same time, it also doesn't feel like a grand adventure. It kinda falls in between the two chairs.

Secondly, I hate the quest structure. Especially early on the quest log is riddled with 'collect x this, collect y that' quests. The map is filled with icons where you can do activities. Just like in just about any UBISOFT game it feels lazy. I don't mind those things being there, but I need a strong fleshed out main quest with fleshed out side quests, not a basic main quest with JUST activities. After a while it gets better, but if you compare this to other rpg's like Skyrim or BG3 .. ooph.

Al in all, decided to change my recommendation to a yes, because I do enjoy playing and I'll finish it ... but I still feel it could've been a lot more.
