My first 300 hours were spent on multiple friends accounts before I got my own PC. After finally getting my own PC for this game, I spent my first 1000 hrs on vanilla servers playing in all possible ways(role play, survivor, hero and bandit) with and without friends. I then took a break when the game switched engines and Devs basically went MIA. And came back when they finally include in client mods which drastically improved the game. As for deciding Modded or Vanilla, go for good in between. Severs with quality of life improvement mods(Map, Party, etc.) and nothing else.

Overall, buy the game. It will be hard at first but learn how you like to play and you will not regret your purchase.
