A fun little game that overstays its welcome a bit in the second half of the game. By the time I completed about half the game's levels I had already maxed out all my upgrades, so now I'm just building up currency that has no use. The game needs more upgrades to pad out the second half of the game, less temporary upgrades after levels and more permanent stuff. I'm at the point where I just need to clear like 10 more levels, but with nothing new to do or play with from the previous dozen or so levels... Its a tedious slog.

I'll start by saying that when you install this game, you are actually installing 2 games: Phantasy Star Online 2 (PSO2) and Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis (NGS). That is why the install size is so massive.
This does come with the perk of being able to use your character across both games, but if you're limited on space, this game will be a GB hog.

Now, on to the game itself!
I'll start with the good:
+Both PSO2 and NGS have amazingly fun combat, but for different reasons. PSO2 has a lot of class and skill variety, and NGS is very fast paced and is a tad more action oriented.
+The character customization is outstanding.
+The music is stellar. Specifically boss themes. They do a very good job at hyping you up.

Now the bad!
-With the launch of NGS, some aspects of PSO2 have suffered and been neglected. PSO2 doesnt have mission pass anymore (battle pass, NGS gets one) and the game just doesnt get content anymore.
-Combat, while fun, needs work. The UI as a whole is atrocious, and really limits what you can put on your hotbar. This is a problem in PSO2 because you get a LOT of skills. Its not really an issue in NGS because every class only has like 4 skills.... its so stupid.
-Every aspect of the UI needs to be reworked. The menuing in this game is so bad, holy moly. Its hard to explain here, but there is just TOO MUCH to it, i dont need to confirm 3 times to join a party... wtf.
-While character customization is amazing, good luck getting anything cool. The player market in both games is broken, and HEAVILY tilted toward paying players. Items are unbelievably inflated in PSO2, and NGS is starting down that path as well.
-ON TOP OF THAT! If you dont have premium (the game's subscription), you cant even put things up for sale, you can only buy from the player market.
-With PSO2 not getting any new updates or content, that means some items are literally unobtainable now. There are some mandatory items you need for Summoner that are literally impossible to get now. So.

Ultimately, NGS is still in Beta / Early Access, even tho the store page doesnt tell you. Might be an amazing game in 1 or 2 years. There is just so little content here now, you can easily get thru all the story content within a week. There is no meaningful repeatable content yet. No interesting quests, no dungeons... Which is INSANELY bad for an MMO, something that is supposed to be designed around player retention. But nope! Log in to do your 15 mins worth of dailies for piddly rewards.
And PSO2 is basically unplayable now days.

Deep Rock Galactic is by far and away my favorite Co-op game basically ever.

You mine, you kill bugs, you get blackout drunk on the space rig. And you look damn good doing it!

Aseprite rules.

Made specifically for pixel art, and very easy to use and get into.

I mainly use it for making emotes for my Discord and personal art. It does everything that I personally need and more. Been putting in a lot of work and the practice has paid off, as I've started getting requests recently.

Before Aseprite I used Photoshop for my pixel art for YEARS, even after being so use to PS's layout and functions I transitioned to Aseprite within a day.

I'm happy I found this software. I've been able to create some cool stuff and characters that I am very proud of.

Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion is a very cute and humorous little game.

The characters are adorable and the artists really knocked the simplistic style out of the park.

I streamed this game while some friends were in the call with me and the game had us legit laughing quite a few times.

Downsides:
The game is pretty short, you can beat it in about 1.5-2 hours, a little longer if you go for 100%. Not too much reasont to replay. Its a fairly steep price for how short it is.
And the controls felt a little clunky during boss fights. I noticed some weird button lag, and the menu to switch items stayed up for a short bit after I closed it, causing me to accidentally switch off of my desired item.

Ultimately the game is cute, humorous, and fun. Buuuut wait for a good sale, its short.

This game mixes elements of Metroidvania, turn based RPG, and creature capture games in a way I didnt think would be this fun and satisfying.
The designs of the creatures, the pixel art, and the music is all wonderful.

The only real downside to the game is maybe a bit of balancing? I got thru most of the game well enough with monsters that I liked, but there are some seriously broken teams.

Pros:
+Beautiful visuals, the pixel art is pretty amazing.
+Great soundtrack. I'd definitely listen to it outside of the game.
+Controls are really solid, never once did I feel like a mistake wasn't my fault.
+Great barrier to entry Metroidvania.

Cons: (some of these cons are in relation to the game's difficulty, which isnt BAD, but for avid players of this genre, this is just fair warning.)
-There is no difficulty options, no unlocked modes after beating the game. And for Metroidvania veterans, this game will be very easy.
-The game is fairly short. My initial blind playthru lasted just over 4 hours, and I did some heavy exploring.
-Powerups are your bog standard Metroidvania fare: High Jump, ability to swim, damage reduction, health and ammo capacity upgrades, stuff like that.
-Weapons were pretty mundane (except for the game's super weapon), but I guess it makes sense as the game is set in modern times.
-The game holds your hand quite often. You're told where to go for basically the entire game.

Overall a very fun and enjoyable game that is well worth it on sale. A fantastic starting point for dipping your toes into Metroidvania games. Its sad that there is little to no replayability. Definitely one of the best licensed games I've played.
