I don't post reviews ever, but this is the only game where I would make an exception as DICE's Star Wars: Battlefront II has rightfully earned it's special place in this passionate Star Wars fans heart.

Make no mistake, this game is in every way a true and worthy successfully to the widely acclaimed original from 2005. Whether you are charging down the cold steel corridors of a Separatists Dreadnought with Anakin and Obi-Wan bantering back and forth with one another, or perhaps making a desperate last stand as the Resistance with Finn cheering your team on, rest assured EA's Battlefront 2 fufills those iconic Star Wars experiences. Over my 1000 hours of play with the game so far, I've cultivated countless of these distinct memories that no other game would be able to replicate.

Yes, the game launched in a rough state, but ever since Nov. 16, 2017, the game has constantly worked to improve and make good on the community's expectations and desires. Of which, they smashed out of the park.

The community expressed interest in more Clone Wars content - so they listened, and we got loads more Clone Wars content with the inclusion of new heroes such as Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, General Grievous, and Count Dooku. Not to mention addition of Geonosis, Felucia, and several unique iterations of maps already in the game to keep things fresh. Also added were iconic additions such as the dual-pistol wielding Clone ARC Troopers, and the community favorite Republic Commando, which is the first time we've seen this unit in such detail in a game since the original game from the early 2000s. We asked for a non-linear sandbox game mode and we got Capital Supremacy, which is an amazingly fun and faithful homage that expands and builds upon the classic's 'Conquest' flagship game-mode by spanning all three theatrical era's in a spectactularly epic back-n-forth tug of war. When the Clone Wars content began to outweigh everything else, they brought the same care and attention in order to bring new and interesting reinforcements, heroes, vehicles, and maps to the other era's as well.

We asked for more single-player options to allow more ways to play, and they gave us Instant Action, which like the 2005 Original, allows players to play completely customize the way they want to play the game by modifying player counts for both infantry and heroes, reinforcement counts, vehicles, and more by being able to freely explore the game's maps and modes through all the era's. We wanted a way to play in a more relaxed environment with our friends and they gave us a Co-Op mode which surprised a lot of us with just how much fun it is! They added in tons of new content to the Sequel Era with the inclusion of content from the Rise of Skywalker tie-in. They brought back beloved community favorite maps like Scarif back from original Battlefront from 2015, and expanded the Original Trilogy with the addition of the Solo: A Star Wars Story movie tie-in.

You get the point, I could go on-and-on with all the things they've added to the game.

All of the above makes for a expansive Star Wars experience with a wide breadth of content for those looking to compete in large-scale linear, or open sandbox matches online, while also allowing the casual gamer that's just looking to have some fun playing as their favorite characters against bots with friends, or solo, the ability to do that too. While those jumping into the multiplayer for the first time will definitely run seasoned and veteran players since launch (as would be the case with every multiplayer game at this stage in it's life), do know there is more than enough ways to practice and improve. Whether that be through Instant Action, or some of the smaller more personable game-modes, the learning curve of the game is moderate, but more than manage-able. It's designed to be easy to pick-up, and rewarding to master. Before long, you'll be the one playing Anakin Skywalker leading the charge against the Separatist with Obi-Wan at your side!

Whatever you are looking for, I guarantee you there is something in here for you. It's clear the folks over at DICE worked passionately to create a worthy spiritual successor to the game we all grew up playing - and in my humble opinion, they couldn't have done a better job. I'm thankful for the friends I've met, and the incredible Star Wars memories I've created with this gem of a game, and I'm looking forward to ones I create in the next (1000?) hours!
