After around 5,000 non-steam hours, and about 3-6000 hours mix between the demo and this is the conclusion to the game of StarMade that I have come to. For this, I feel it necessary to give it a negative review and advise any person that is considering getting into this game to reconsider.

Upon initial inspection, one would see a great deal of potential from this and see it as a possibly great game. There are many servers to choose from, many options and a multitude of things that one can proceed with to dump hours upon hours into and never tire from it. However, the skeleton in the closet of this game lies in a two part system that has proven to be a constant downward spiral that despite years of attempts, it has not pulled out from.

The community for this game is as toxic as it could be, with many players belittled and harassed on a near endless basis from all angles. There have been countless aggressive points placed into play within the game's main forum site which, suffice to say, everyone will end up viewing at some point if they wish to do anything outside of single player or minimal server-side projects. From newer players becoming the target of ire from bitter veterans for reasons ranging from thoughts of them being a spy to just downright taking out of aggression to veteran players being reduced to nothing more than a troll magnet for having an opinion that differs from the masses, the community is akin to that of rabid cuttlefish eternally devouring one another whenever there is no fresh meat to feast from. The gap between PvP and PvE crowds as well is akin to that of civil wars without end, eternally ending in bitter wars of words from self-empowered keyboard warriors that retain presence and relevance only within their parents' basements.

The other massive downfall is that the development team would be akin to that of No Man's Sky or The Stomping Land in that they do not care for satisfying what the player base is looking for. They have their "vision" and it involves nobody outside of their own selves. It has been openly stated on multiple occassions that they wish to kill the current following of the game and do not foresee anyone playing this when they feel they will finish it. Not from the original base that is. Imagine spending weeks working on ships and stations in elaborate constructions only to be told when you are complete that there is some new update that is going to force you to reconstruct it from the ground up again. Imagine having to waste countless hours refitting everything only to have it not relevant after a patch that drops without warning just a few days after your work is completed. With the latest update as well, it has completely broken every facet this game had stability wise. Many players are leaving because of this, including myself. I doubt most of us will even consider returning to StarMade after what has transpired. But I digress.

If you are still of curious minds to see for yourself, then all you need to do is scan the forums which are dead or gone right now, scan the recruitments and notes if they haven't been censored by now and see for yourself. This game has died, it likely shall not be revived and despite many enjoyable moments in times past, there is no blood that can seep from this stone any more.

TL;DR Don't bother wasting your time. Look into better similar games such as Empyrion or Skywanderers. This game is a time waster and toxic cesspool of neverending sorrow and frustration.
