Initially when I started this game I found it so terrifying that I just explored on creative in the Cyclops. Finally after some time I decided to revisit it and just play the game standard. I found the early game mix of getting the right tools, building my first mini base and resources from the Safe Shallows and nearby areas eased me into the greater depth of the world. Literally. Suddenly I found myself seeing this game for what it was and how crazy beautiful it is. The story is enough, but not too much. You end up finding much of the backstory while you explore and build, and what ends up being the main story is lovely, and feels quite emotional towards the end. Exploring this beautiful world is fun, and while resource management and gathering feels like a massive grind at time and early on, by the time you play it a second time (and you will be back for another run or three) you know where everything is and it becomes easy.
The terrifying beauty of this game is for me, is what makes it so great and compelling to come back to.

I adore it and it'll always be my #1 survival/exploration game.
