Oh my dear god. Where do I begin with this glorious title.

I suppose that I should note that this game eluded me for many years with it's mythical presence being constantly spotted in Archie Comics, Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, and many other phenomenon.

When I was finally able to get my hands on it, alongside the comics that they had done, the wii title and other tidbits of lore and trivia, I was presented with one final thing that I could hardly believe

A dream of a game come true.

From it's absolute unique gameplay told true from the sega saturn era, this title boasts superior, slick controls that reward it's mastering with the utmost of joy and expression from essential to nonessential control. The way you can make NiGHTS dance and loop about like within the opening cutscene is the extra mile that surely, deeply gave you the sensation that the developers really, really cared.

The levels are Vibrant and full of life, and all have their own special parts to them that really make you feel like you're in a dynamic dream. There's always a fun, lighthearted challenge to it, and the graphics and scenery will keep your eyes trained on it for hours. What's more is that the inclusion of such amazing bosses that all have their own style of fighting and weakness in a awe-inspiring arena made specially for them is just fantastic. It is always a challenge to perform your best against such powerful nightmaren! Try to para-loop all of gilliwing's tail in one try- I've done it, you can too!

The story of course, within the game and also accompanied by it's comics that provide excellent backstory is absolutely joyous to behold as it transcends the medium of storytelling- It doesn't pound your ears in with exposition, It tells by showing. The game has very little in the way of dialogue, apart from Reala's wonderfully said line and perhaps NiGHTS shouting "Aptiva!" to fly into the dreams of our wonderful dreamers. Even from such short found cutscenes I find myself immediately connecting with Elliot Edwards and Claris Sinclair (Lovely names) and their transformation from fear, uncertainty to those with the courage to do anything. The final payoff from each side, especially once one has completed a rank A on every stage is without comparison the most vibrant and beautiful thing to ever grace my eyes and soul, and has a wonderously positive message on the whole. If you're a fan of the comics, you'll find that they come hand in hand, and very much expand upon the origins of the twin seeds tower, wiseman's plan, NiGHT's deviancy and the development of the town up to and after our titular heroes are introduced into the story.

Now for a very special part of what makes NiGHTS into Dreams so amazing and outright beyond words are the composers for the title, special mentions going to Naofumi Hataya, Tomoko Sasaki and Fumie Kumatani. However, Tomoko Sasaki is the main composer for NiGHTS into dreams and I have nothing but admiration for her work, as the OST of NiGHTS into Dreams is nothing short of an absolute 𝑴𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒑𝒊𝒆𝒄𝒆.

Somehow, Tomoko Sasaki managed to show us both the light and the dark within a dream through the brilliance of music and create living, dynamic dreamscapes for us to fly through that either soothed or brought you alive with gentle tones and poppy beats. And of course, nobody can ever forget "Dreams Dreams", The track to bring it all together in a glorious sendoff at the end of the game. She would also go on to do the music for Journey of dreams, which pleases me to no end.

Tomoko Sasaki, If you ever get the chance to read this, thank you so much for all of your hard work. This also goes for Naofumi Hataya and Fumie Kumatani.

I would also like to reference Wikipedia in that NiGHTS into Dreams was developed by Yuji Naka, Naoto Ohshima, and Takashi Iizuka. Naka began the project with the main idea revolving around flight, and Ohshima designed the character Nights to resemble an angel that could fly like a bird. Ohshima designed Nights as an androgynous character. The team conducted research on dreaming and REM sleep, and was influenced by the works and theories of psychoanalysts Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud. This game born from such an idea amazes me to no end by the creativity and thought and effort put into it's creation. To this end, I would also like to thank Yuki Naka, Naoto Ohshima and Takashi Iizuka. You've brought into the world an amazing product that has no fault, and every inch of a developer's love and care poured into it until it was fit to burst. As a Lucid dreamer, and one who is a natural born lucid dreamer, this game feels like it was made just for someone like me.

Now there's just one more thing I'd like to say before I conclude this review. This title has remasters of the orignal soundtrack that very much live up to the names of the originals, and I enjoy them all the same, although I will sometimes opt for the OG over the new tracks. The fact that this title had such a lovely HD brush up done on it with such care shows the love for the game, and I applaud the work done. To even include the bonus christmas title is above and beyond, and is something i regularily play during the holidays now, because of the stellar artwork, music and level design. A truly perfectly done port with zero flaws- something that quite rare to see.

The only thing left to say now is thank you. Thank you to the development staff for creating such a well thought out game with grand controls and beautiful levels. Thank you to the artists who made the concept art and brought a world of dreams to life. Thank you to the composers for lavishly lambasting our ears with the stuff of legends. Thank you to every single person in part to the production of this game and it's eventual port to PS3 and PC.

Thank you, thank you, 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒌 𝒚𝒐𝒖

𝒀𝒐𝒖'𝒗𝒆 𝒎𝒂𝒅𝒆 𝒎𝒚 𝒅𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒎𝒔 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒕𝒓𝒖𝒆.
