I remember sitting in a large, stone, ruin, we had captured and were defending against the Defiler’s forces. I sat there, cuddling and crying over the corpse of my brother who’d just died before my eyes, cut down and nearly split in two by a Heretic’s bolter, and was now gone forever.

My fellow Guardsman were around me, trying to block out the sounds of my cries of pain and anguish I felt, when our Commisar approach me. She was scared as well, we could call see it. She grabbed her Laspistol and aimed it at my head, trembling in fear, all while saying,"You will get up now, or I will kill you!"

I closed my eyes, ready to die before I went back out there. Then, a miracle happened…

An Adeptus Astartes, a Space Wolf, grabbed my Commisar by her wrist and pulled the Lasgun with his large, gauntleted, hand and tossed it aside. His bright, helmeted, red-colored eyes stared at her, and she backed away. The Wolf then turned to me and said,” Guardsman, why do you fight?”

I simply stared up at him, as did my fellow guardsman, in awe and fear at the god-like man of the Astartes. He then removed his helmet, letting us see his large, bearded, face and crystal blue colored eyes, before he spoke again,” You aren't Wolfen or any other Marine, you are simply men. Men who are weak, feeble, and nothing compared to the horrors of the Warp, Xeno, and mutants, that attack mankind. Yet, you still fight, with little training, worthless weapons and armor, and a leader who’d sooner shoot you than the enemy would,” he glared at the Commisar, showing hiss disgust, before continuing,” I’ll tell you why you fight, because YOU must! I am a Wolfen, my armor harden, my ax sharpen, my blood holds the power and strength of thousands of my brothers and Lord Russ, so I fear no Xeno, no Heretic, and no cursed spawn...And yet, you charge into the fray, with nothing better than a Bayonette with a Flashlight, and you do so with courage in your hearts,” He then knelt by me, placing his large, metal, hand on my shoulder, and says,” That, Guardsman, is why I admire you!” He then looked to my company, saying,” I am going out there, and I’m going to make those bastards pay for every inch of proud Cadia they soil, WHO WITH ME!?” and together we cheered. My Squad, my Commisar, our whole damn detachment, we cheered on. We grabbed our Lasguns, we fixed Bayonettes, and we charged right into the killing zone. We did this, not with fear of our Commisar’s Lasgun behind us, but with the Courage and honor of the Imperial Guard, and we do so with a smile.
