Early Access Review
Reminds me of old, early DayZ epoch, and with all the updating the devs have done in the last year, iits on a good course to be a great multiplayer game overall.

HOLD OFF ON PURCHASING UNTIL LATER

While the game itself on the frontend is amazing and keeps entertainment rolling through its content.

HOWEVER, even travelling from island to island causes severe instabilitity, causing players to hitch and fly off of the airship and die, lock up constantly, lose a heavy amount of frames, lose objects through the world, and a laundry list more worth of game breaking bugs.

This games back end is not in a reliable state, hold onto your money until later.

Subnautica is a good example of why jumping into a game early is bad for the average user, but what a healthy, early access title can achieve as it grows with its playerbase.

Subnautica is obviously, a game about spending your time in an alien ocean after crash landing, leaving the player with no information as to why or how, and are slowly trickled informaiton through the story through exploration.

Subnautica in its early stages was rather...limited. It didn't have a lot to do, and the story was not completed. Hell, when I first purchased it, you weren't allowed to go near the main shipwreck through normal gameplay, let alone explore inside of it. But as time went on, The developers took care of it, making sure to continue adding content and polish in order to achieve a finalized product, but all the way, Subnautica remained "Fun." not having to delve into goofy mechnics in order to keep things interesting.

Eventually this culminates in what you see now, a near finished product that a normal player could easily attain 20 hours of gameplay with, and for the price, that is eincredibly fair.

A beautiful, frightening atmosphere, well crafted with its ambiet sounds to make for a terrifying experience without having to use actual horror.
A well crafted enviroment, though a little lacking while on land, the underwater flora and fauna is pretty, and highly believable.
Threats which are actually frightening, if not visually due to the games usage of fog and darkness, simply due to the sounds they make.
A rich plethora of usable content, allowing more decorative players to have their fun, while less home bound players can explore without feeling handicapped.

Previously I could not recommend Subnautica due to its limitations in its early access form, but as it approaches release, those who have not taken the dive, I highly recommend that you do, even as it prepares for its final release into 1.0

Fundamental flaws in level and boss design, terrible pacing, and a whole lot of missed marks. Don't buy if you're looking for the Banjo experience.

From the outset ,the game looks promising, a casual sense of humor, good looking art design, and a control scheme reminiscent of other nostalgic titles, but the game begins to fall flat soon through the first world. Locations are large, but empty, with traversal becoming near meaningless later in the game with the always available ability to fly, but this only helps to make the game bearable, as locations are simply a trudge, being far too large for the scope of the characters movement.

Boss fights are a pain, instead of being creative and fun, they are more of a chore, mostly requiring you to subscribe to the school of "Don't get hit, hit it more." As well, due to their abhorrence of things like Health Pick ups mid fight and check points, already boring fights become abyssmal quickly due to multiple sections (The last boss fight has near 8 sections, all of which are still, don't get hit, hit them more.)

The pacing begins strong, the game introducing plenty to get you moving, but eventually you're just using your roll and fly to try and hurry through the massively empty levels (World 5 is ESPECIALLY bad about this)

There was plenty to build on here, but somehow they flopped. The game, when compared to nothing else, is average, but when compared to its legacy, its incredibly below average.

YOU WANT A FULL GAME?
YOU WANT DRM THAT DOESN'T KICK YOUR ASS FOR FLAKEY INTERNET?
YOU WANT TO SEE SOMETHING OTHER THAN PARIS AND CARDBOARD MAPS?
YOU WANT A WORTHWHILE PURCHASE?

THEN YOU BEST WAIT A YEAR, DO NOT PURCHASE NOW.

Seriously, I love Hitman and ♥♥♥♥, but episodic AND DRM coated? Plz no.

Edit: 10/02/2017

So at this point the entire first seasons out, this is long after the fact that I originally wrote this review.
I could have recommended it at this point, the game has vibes of Blood Money, has its comedic moments, and gives the player enough freedom of choice to do rediculous ♥♥♥♥, like drown the entire gala ball in a single toilet.

I never had any problems with any real glitchiness, other than usual AI ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ issues.

HOWEVER, I still doubt that the game is worth 60 dollars (As based on the current Serason 1 bundle price) Especially so long after the initial release. It's a full game now, but I do not believe it to be worth 60 (MAYBE 40)

The decisions you make as a developer will be how the consumer remembers you.

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter was an experience, I came into it immediatly struck in awe at the simple beauty of the enviroment, without anything meant to draw the eye, everything came at you at one, giving you so much to observe. The way the player travels gives time to enjoy the scenery, obviously lovingly crafted by a team who knew their intention and how to reach it.

But, Ethan Carter has a major flaw.

Without spoiling, I will say there are three distinct points that ruined the game for me. Two of them completely deimmerse you from the game, shaking you awake from a dream by simply slamming confusion into your face, where you wake up and immediatly realize, "This doesn't fit" forcing you to shake your head, only to try to get yourself back into the story. As well, the ending of the game (Again, without spoiling) completely erradicates the immersion and interest in the story by simply telling you "Nothing you experienced mattered" making any analysis of lines of dialogue, narrative, and story telling null and void.

The game itself was a nice, narrative experience, but it leaves a bitter taste in ones mouth simply with a drop of the plate, taking what could have been a finely crafted piece of art into a shabble as the explanation to the events clears all of the paint from the canvas.

The game left me unsatisfied, and not that I was wanting more, it was that I felt that the thought and time I invested into the story was simply thrown away when the developers took the easy route out plot wise.

I sadly cannot recommend this game, watch a Let's Play if you're curious, but the dissatisfaction with how the story holds together in the end isn't enough to warrant even 20 dollars.

I haven't felt this way about a game since I started playing TF2.

It's nice, fluid, and action packed, with plenty of customizability to keep things fresh.

My only complaint is the size of maps that don't really support such small teams, and I feel retarded running around a drill site and not seeing the clustered team roaming aroudn the opposing side of the map.

Just because you are unique, does not mean you are useful.

7 Days to Die has a problem. It has many problems.
Is the Zombie AI awful.....yeah...
Are the weapons incredibly stock and unappealing.....Yeah...
Is there no risk involved when you can just run back to your house and get your shotgun back after dying.....Yeah...

But most of all, 7 Days to Die has one serious problem. It mixes and matches far too many concepts into spots where they do not belong. Base building is slow and unrewarding, when even stone walls can be broken down by the horde, and when breaking the game mechanics is the only way to provide safe shelter. Mining is slow and unrewarding, digging for hours to only come up with coal and nitrite, only to say ♥♥♥♥ it, and use dynamite to blow open caves simply because you can. Combat is slow and unrewarding, when even a huge horde can bring you nothing but some bullets and pieces of paper. Crafting is slow an unrewarding, and in essence, bland, using the usual PICKAXE, AXE, EXPLOSIVE, FENCING objects to build, bringing nothing new or surprising to the table. This game may be an alpha, it may have some quirks, and it may not be perfect yet.

But if steam had a return button, I'd be smashing the refund key until Gabe kicked down my door, gripped my wrist ferociously, and lovingly whispered into my ear, "Cut that ♥♥♥♥ out"

It's an alpha, and it isn't a fun one, not worth 30 dollars, and certainly not worth a moment of your time.
