Bought this while on sale $17.39AUD DLC bundle, actual game was $5.37AUD.

Started with 2 other mates and it did take awhile to get use to the gameplay style. Point click move, spells are assigned to:
1, 2, 3, 4
Q, W, E, R
A, S, D, F

First note: You will kill each other, GET USE TO IT.

After several hours we settled into a rhythm, my wife looking over my should said "That looks awesome! Can I join?" so we went back to let her get to speed.

While waiting we started to experiment with the equipment the DLC brought...
uWu whats this? a pistol? that deals poison damage...
A robe that heals with poison damage instead of life magick?
A staff that boosts poison damage?

Equipment combo thus: Scavenger Robe, Grimnir Reaper, Ol' Trusty Rusty

Did I mention that the robe make you go boom when you die?
The rampage that followed has us all in fits of laughter. Our sides have ascended!

Getting Yeet'd off the map in a blaze of glory from your mate dieing too close was the highlight of the night

Shooting your friends for healing damage!
*Derek Buam's Kitchen(Healing) Gun* 3 shots and you sparkle like new!

10/10 would shoot my friends again...

*01 Oct 2021* 50+ hours begrudgingly I'm changing my review to positive, this came at a great personal conflict. This game has had a terrible start and this game is the SOLE reason I do not pre-order games, period. So in hindsight that's a positive this game has done for humanity.

Full review time.

Content, there is plenty for every type of gamer, whether it be combat, exploration/discovery, quests, space flight, to name but a few. Although most of these things are rudimentary, flight on the planets will auto correct you to the terrain so you dont have to worry about crashing, but the thruster fuel requirements means that you have to stop often or carry a supply of uranium with you for frequent hops.

Base building can be tedious you'll have to proceed with the quest chains to unlock crafting recipes or loot salvaged data from the planets and take them to the "Anomaly" and buy the recipes. I encountered graphical glitches after the base reached a certain size. I don't think they intended for players to sit still long enough to build such a large base. I've spent my entire 50hours in this play through within 100LY of my starting location.

Upgrades people Upgrades, you will need to spend a fair amount of time grinding materials to build or to sell to then buy the random upgrades that vendors sell, after exploring enough, not sure at what trigger point the game has, you literally get given a Capital Ship, a Freighter. Once you do some more exploring around the galaxy you'll encounter frigates to buy/hire to compliment your Capital Fleet, you can then send them out on expeditions, which take real time to complete 2 -19hours so far, to retrieve goods/credits at the cost of fuel (Di-hydrogen+Tritium, one found frequently on the planets the other in asteroid belts). Most frigates cost 1.5mil - 4.0mil (that I've encountered so far) so you will stupid amount of credits to get this started.

At another seemingly random warp I encountered a mission to save a settlement in jeopardy. You can manage a settle of NPC's and earn money through the management of this colony, whether it be build a market, or settle a dispute between residents, or send them off to retrieve items. Most of which require real time to wait for the results of the action taken.

A very high redeeming feature is the free content updates, but rightly so what EA started should never have occurred. I'm all for supporting a game I enjoy but If we pay for content there is an expectation that goes with that cost. The free content is allowed to have a certain inequality to the stability of said content.

A few things that are minor turn offs.

The player base are predominantly Sean Murray fanboys, most of the potential players were chased off by the failed launch, not gonna lie, it did fail.

The balance of time vs reward is only slightly off, I found some elements to be FAR too grindy, but only by a fraction. I know that's a nitpick but this game deserves a high level of scrutiny.

Apart from the before mentioned glitches, Read further down for all previous review edits, I'm ready to change my tune.

*09 Sept 2021* Still withholding judgement but its starting to swing to a neutral opinion. Keeping it at no for now, will update again soon

20+ hours more into this play through and a few more bugs found... sentinel quads like to fall under the terrain frequently, I'm not too upset by this cause it means i can farm nanites from the drones endlessly.

Next thing that does bug me is mining in space, regularly and especially after a long time in the asteroid field, a number of asteroids allow the weapons energy to pass right through them and hit the asteroid behind them. Not until you get closer will they explode on contact. A little frustrating when your weapon overheats after wasting time on a cluster that wont explode.

In progress of a play through after many friends saying they've fixed it finally, checking steam reviews to verify this is the case. Stay tuned Review will come after this play through. 8 Hours into this play through

Encountered my first glitch in this play through, died to a bug attack after i opened an egg, game crashed and i lost my grave and all my resources on my body.

I still think of this game as something I scraped off my shoe... Shameless steam achievement bump

Some players are OK with being lied to. That's fine, live in your own world where everything is perfect. I, however, seriously hate being lied to.

"multiplay elements" - none at all, was debunked on day 1 via twitch streams
"will take years to get to the center" - was completed in a week and there was nothing there.

The trailer showed seamless integration between areas, such as space into atmosphere. Wildlife galore and endless universe to explore, each planet was the same. Land and gather material to continue. No large ships to interact with, learning the "Gek" language 1 tedious word at a time. I run dual gtx 980ti, Skylake 6700k 4.0ghz, 32gb ram. Pixels in every loading area.

The gameplay was nothing like the trailer, no matter how many people disagree with my review, WE WERE LIED TO! fact period!

We the gaming community can take down any developer when we set our minds to it. Take look at overkill and payday2 after their lie about microtransactions!

If I never see "Hellogames" again it will be too soon.

I'm done... SO ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ done.
Micro-Trans-♥♥♥♥♥♥♥-actions...

Enough said, I'm out and uninstalling.

Edit: Since the announcement of Starbreeze purchasing the rights to the Payday franchise
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-05-31-payday-3-confirmed-payday-2-ditches-microtransactions
I've been overjoyed. We (the gamers) have won against Overkill and their backstab with the microtransactions.
I'm changing my review to positive in support of this new regime and I, for one, welcome our new overlords.

Re-installing.
