Early Access Review
Ok, now I've played for about an hour... I am somewhat disappointed. This may not sound a long time but for a survival/horror/zombie game like this it's plenty. For a game that's been in development for about 2 years or so (anyone know exactly?) it's controls are just as janky as the Arma 2 mod if not worse with horrible initial bindings and flumoxy actions when using those controls, the UI is sparse and in a word "terribad"; sparse UIs in themselves are not a bad thing but this one could have been made in 2 minutes in MSPaint, picking up and using items is clunky; especially the flashlight, which you seem to be holstering, unholstering, turning off, turning on, holstering again... then putting in the middle of your screen and turning off again. A lot of building interiors are copy/pastes of each other with exactly the same layouts and interior decoration, and the combat system and fighting zombies... wow, just wow, glitchy and unintuitive I think are the best two words for it, with only one way to swing a weapon or punch... which then doesn't seem to impact very well and the animations are pretty static. I know this is an early access, but I was expecting more after all this time. What happened? I was looking forward to an improved DayZ experience, and I must say... I probably had more fun with the Arma 2 mod, buggy as it was.

Thanks for the input Kirigiri, I do appreciate what you're saying and how far they have come - my opinions may be on the harsher side, but that also be because they could be colored by how good a lot of other lower profile early access games have been recently, or ones that weren't early access and just released and were good from the smaller studios. I do wish the team all the best with the game, and like you say, all jokes aside, I did love the living daylights out of the Arma 2 mod version, I played that quite a bit - and not seeing any much progress here (even what appears to be stuff that was there in arma but isn't in this) doesn't fill me with the upmost confidence, especially as early access is paid-access (I know, disclaimers are everywhere, don't hit me!). I do hope it gets better, and i do hope to re-visit it once it is and eat my own crow... as it were.

@Tabriel

Look, jokes aside, you have a point. Yes the game is in development for something like 2 years. Lets say its in developement for a really long time. I feel frustrated too hearing from others that the game hasnt made any progress. I get dissapointed in the game because i waited so long and instead of developing the game Dean goes to Mt. Everest. Ok his life, his descisions, not my bussines. But my point is that they ve been talking about this and talking and talking.... They actually made a baby step forward by releasing it even in alpha, wich shows in my opinion, they are getting 100% consentrated in finally finishing this. We'll see how this goes, only time will tell...

Early access is a great thing; so far I've played Nether, Starbound, and a couple of others I can't remember the names of, and I'm fine with bugs, glitches, character wipes, world wipes, tuning - but I don't see how a game that's been in development for so long is at this specific point. I'm sorry if my opinion isn't the one you share. I can't see the future, and you never know, they could patch this a few times and then somehow it becomes a version that changes everything and it shines like a diamond in a sea of coal... which I would love to see and in which case I will bow my head and shamefully beg forgiveness. Sorry that I bent so many people out of shape with an opinion.

Guys, I know what early access is; I have a few games like that already. What I'm trying to point out is that after so much development time, even in an early access... this isn't any step up from the Arma 2 mod, in fact I'd say I had a lot more fun with the Arma 2 mod, and that was buggy as heck.
I completely understand that it's an early alpha, but as it's been in development for so long for this standalone, and also as an Arma 2 mod for a long time before that I just personally feel it's no real improvement. I perhaps shouldn't complain so much over an early access game, but really - have you seen an improvement over just playing it through Arma 2? (aside from setting it up).

Yeah, 40 years. When the first PCs came out, rocket started making this with floppy disks.

It is very early alpha at that, so umtie your damn panties.

Well, it's in a alpha. So don't expect too much of it and you only played a mother fucking hour.
