IT'S NOT A BOOMER SHOOTER!

DON'T GO IN EXPECTING PRODEUS, CULTIC AND THE LIKES! IT MIGHT GIVE BOOMER SHOOTER VIBES, BUT IT'S NOT!

Having said that, and getting rid of the elephant inside the room I just want to say, that the game is great mix of genres. The progression is similar to metroidvanias, there are RPG elements, like upgrading your weapons or spells, and about 50% of the game is a shooter.

The gameplay is quite unique. I've been following the game since the EA, and the devs weren't great about informing people about the progress of the development and it should be released a bit later to the EA.

Since I'm quite hot headed today, and I can't even write a comprehensive sentence, I just want to recomend the game, because it is great now.

If you are unsure, get it when it's like 15$, but even with full price you'll get your money's worth.

I'm dissapointed.

It's first Arkane game, which I don't enjoy and can't recommend.
All, usually present, immersive sims elements aren't present (I know, it's not meant to be an immersive sim, but c'mon, can't throw a bottle to distract enemies, or take them silently from behind?) and, since it's Arkane game I was hoping to at least be able to kill enemies in some creative ways (Deathloop/Prey and Prey: Mooncrash? Not even mentioning Dishonored.).

I started the game as Dav (I forgot his full name). The guy who's a 'paranormal things reporter'. Anyway, in the starting sections I found some locked doors—some needed a lockpick, some needed a key, so I thought I'll explore the ship a bit.
Found some meaningless notes scattered on the ground. Also, ino 0451 safe/container found, and believe me, I searched pretty thoroughly, both the ship, and both ways to the first quest mark where you get back to Redfall.

Performance, optimization and general eye candy stuff.

The game has those micro-stutters every now and then, but I thought it's Unreal Engine loading shaders. I've got RTX 3080, Ryzen 9 5900x, 32GBs of RAM, and M.2 NVMe SSD, so the game started in 4k, with Epic settings loadout. I toned it down a bit, because those stutters were annoying. Reduced the resolution to 1080p and to High settings, with some DLSS on. The stutters were still present. BTW even on Epic the graphics wasn't epic in any way honestly. I think, it looks worse that Deathloop on similar settings. And Deathloop runs much smoother.

The price tag.

The price for the base game is some kind of late April's Fools joke.
Also, not mentioning the Deluxe edition price. I could spend that money on a food for a month, or a bootle of some really good whisky.

Usually, I don't write this kind of reviews. I expected more from Arkane. I know it's probably Bethesda pressure to release the game, though I might be wrong here and Arkane Austin just tried to bite more than they can chew and they spit it out releasing this mess of a game.

tl;dr

Disappointing and over-priced. Wouldn't suggest buying it (maybe in a year on a -75% sale), unless you don't have anything better to do with your money and you are Arkane fan.
I'll be refunding the game.

It's like Bloodborne, Castlevania and Zelda had a threesome.
And the child has features from all of the parents.

Others already wrote very elaborated reviews, so I'll just leave it.
Great game btw.

It's a great FPS Half-Life meets Stalker with a pinch of immersive sim.

Worth the asking price, the game has linear campaign and 2nd mode which is an open world adventure/exploration/quests thing.

I can't really recommend it enough, just try the demo or buy it already. In 2 hours you will be sure if that's a game for you or not.

Great atmosphere, kind of hard to get into, due to keybindings and movements or attacks in general, but with yestarday's patch it's much more bearable.

If You're there for gritty amotsphere, unique graphics, and the setting, (like "modernized" Fallout 1 & 2 with cyber/dieselpunk world) You'll feel like at home.
