I waited for this to go on sale and finally grabbed it. I loved the first Darkest Dungeon and at first I wasn't really sure of this one, but it won me over. The first game, I consider to be a masterpiece, and they added quite a few mechanics to the sequel that to me took away from the simplistic nature of the first game.

Darkest Dungeon 2 is through and through a rogue game, that is, as you play it and die, it gets easier and easier, that wasn't the case with the first one. You don't really get to enjoy the game until you've died a few times, gotten some permanent unlocks and unlocked a few of your heroes move set and abilities.

It is more of a narrated game and It's fun to learn about the heroes back stories.

Overall, it's a good mix of something new with something old, when you get into combat, the heart of the first game can really be seen.

The artwork is cute. The game play is solid. It can be beaten solo, but much easier with a friend. I think the $15 price is worth the value, but I do kind of feel like I wish there was just a little bit more. Overall, if you like co-op games or games similar to FTL - I do recommend this game.

The roguelike elements are much fairer in this game than others. Tons of unlocks and upgrades make the game easier each go. I've beaten the game a few times now, but still trying to unlock everything, and it's been more fun than frustrating.

Early Access Review
For those who never heard of Nemesis, It's like a re-imagining of the Alien franchise. If you love the themes of Alien and Aliens - you should definitely check this game out. I'd also 'very loosely' describe this as a more complex turn based Among Us type game. So, if a - semi-coop | betrayal - type of game interests you, I'd also say please check this game out.

While it is in early access and I'm sure there will be future content - there are already talks of DLC coming. Nemesis: Lockdown - really does capture the essence of the board game. It's hard and challenging (I'd almost say it might be a tad too hard, but that's also true to the board game as well).

One of the great things about the digital copy is that it does all the rules for you. The noise rolls, the power grid, the fire spreading, the critter bag, and room items, it is all very much automated for you. Sometimes the flow of the board game can get slowed down with so many mechanics going on, but this makes it where you don't have to do any of that, just pay attention to the events as they happen.

It does takes a little getting used to the digital environment. You can actually move your character around the room, but like the board game, you only actually use the move action when you exit the room. At first you kind of have to move your mouse around the room environment, because not all the room interactions jump out at you as being obvious interactions. As you play, you'll notice what all the item pickups look like, but it's easy to miss when you are new.

The tutorial is a little lacking at the moment. While, I'm glad they have something in place, they are all prerecorded videos and many of them teach you the aspects of the actual board game and not focused within the digital retelling of it. While the rules and everything are the same, there are just some aspects that are different and I'd really wish they had a more traditional in-game tutorial that actually had you click and using the various menus and keys to interact and do stuff.

Despite all that - I'm glad that they put effort into digitizing the game.
